For best results, particularly with lighter shades, apply to hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blond. Apply to freshly washed (not conditioned), dry or damp hair. Apply using latex gloves. We recommend using a tinting brush to ensure even coverage. Work the dye into the hair for a few minutes and leave for at least 15 minutes (you may leave this dye on for longer as long as you cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap to prevent it drying out). Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.

For longer lasting colour, use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

  • Precautions

Although these dyes do not contain the harsh chemicals of other dyes such as ammonia and peroxide, there is still a small chance that they could cause an allergic reaction. For this reason it is imperative that you do a strand and sensitivity test before using them. An ingredients list is available above and can also be found on the product’s packaging (ingredients list can sometimes be found under our sticker). NEVER use any of these products on eyelashes or eyebrows.

As you would expect from a dye these colours can stain textiles, ceramic, wood and other surfaces as well as temporarily stain skin and nails so be careful to cover surfaces and wear gloves when applying the colour. Once used these products may also rub off your hair and skin and onto clothing and bedding. Although this usually disappears after washing it’s worth bearing this in mind. Staining to bathtubs, basins and showers can easily be cleaned using a bleach based cleaning product.

    Do not mix with peroxide.

Colours may cause permanent staining to bleached or chemically treated hair. Tip: You can avoid staining on your skin by applying a layer of vaseline anywhere on your skin where dye may come in contact.

Reviews of Special Effects Wild Flower

  • Works well on bleached hair, if your hair is not bleached it will fade quickly, within a week. When it does fade it will turn an odd silvery purple.
  • On my hair, this came out a lot darker than the sample picture at first, but does fade within a week or two to a perfect match for the sample. I did come out with some white patches, whether my hair wasn't bleached pale enough or damaged there I don't know. It does bleed slightly when washed, but not enough to stain clothes/skin. Unsure about how long it lasts, it's not always reliable.
  • One of my most commonly used purples, it's gorgeous, though will not take on everyone's hair.
  • I liked it at first, a good purple, but it faded quite quickly to a weird sort of purpley pewter effect that I didn't like at all, since there were four other colors on my head that remained neon. I'd usually rather use another dye with a similar hue than bother with this one again, but in a pinch, on a short-term dye job, it'd be okay.
  • This turned out a nice medium purple over unbleached, medium brown hair. It faded quickly for me, but I was also moving (ie driving in the sun a lot), and my hair wasn't bleached. I really loved the color while it lasted.
  • The first result is absolutely gorgeous, but as mentioned previously it fades very quickly even on bleached hair and turns into a sort of silvery lilac...
  • This is my favorite purple ever. It's such a beautiful color. It does fade pretty quickly though.
  • I simply cannot say enough about this purple. If you have hair that sucks in dye like crazy, and can't use colors like Deep Purple because it turns your hair black, this color is the best for a nice purple shade. I lightened my hair to only a Level 4 (medium brown) and then applied this color; it made my hair a rich blue-ish purple. It is the color I tried to get with Deep Purple but failed because Deep Purple just turned my hair black! Wild Flower is pretty much the only purple that works on me. I love it.
  • I agree with the above - deeper purples like Pravana violet were making my hair kinda black-ish and this did the trick for a nice deep bluish purple (over a GREEN base!!). Also worked over pale orange. For me this does great over an imperfect base - do not need white or pale yellow at all. Also this color doesn't bleed or stain!!! For me a perfect purple!
  • Really lovely, almost iridescent colour. I used this over a faded Stargazer Coral Blue and the effect is fabulous. I'm going to keep coming back to this colour!
  • Worked really great -- lovely purple with a lot of blue undertones. Sometimes purples take on strange red undertones so I was very impressed! It lasted well and diluted easily with conditioner.
  • I have naturally pure white hair - an ideal canvas for colours. Applied this dye on 9th August, leaving it to work for 45 minutes; by 18th of August, having only washed my hair 3 times, the colour had completely gone! Weirdly, it went from very pale lilac to white from 17th to 18th with no additional washing! Pretty disappointed with its lasting power - "Special Effects is one of the longer lasting brands" it said in the description and suggested that paler shades would last around 4 weeks. I used Star Gazer before and that lasted about the same. It may be that my hair is particularly resistant to dyes?
