Usage

For best results, particularly with lighter shades, apply to hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blond. Apply to freshly washed (not conditioned), dry or damp hair. Apply using latex gloves. We recommend using a tinting brush to ensure even coverage. Work the dye into the hair for a few minutes and leave for at least 15 minutes (you may leave this dye on for longer as long as you cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap to prevent it drying out). Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.

For longer lasting colour, use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

  • Precautions +/-

Although these dyes do not contain the harsh chemicals of other dyes such as ammonia and peroxide, there is still a small chance that they could cause an allergic reaction. For this reason it is imperative that you do a strand and sensitivity test before using them. An ingredients list is available above and can also be found on the product’s packaging (ingredients list can sometimes be found under our sticker). NEVER use any of these products on eyelashes or eyebrows.

As you would expect from a dye these colours can stain textiles, ceramic, wood and other surfaces as well as temporarily stain skin and nails so be careful to cover surfaces and wear gloves when applying the colour. Once used these products may also rub off your hair and skin and onto clothing and bedding. Although this usually disappears after washing it’s worth bearing this in mind. Staining to bathtubs, basins and showers can easily be cleaned using a bleach based cleaning product.

    Do not mix with peroxide.

Colours may cause permanent staining to bleached or chemically treated hair. Tip: You can avoid staining on your skin by applying a layer of vaseline anywhere on your skin where dye may come in contact.

Reviews of Special Effects Virgin Rose

  • Wow, this is one amazing colour. Freshly dyed it's a pink-purple hybrid that absolutely shimmers in the sun and after a few washes it is a very bright pink. It took forever to fade and faded beautifully. It is, by far, one of the best pinks I have ever done. But beware - prepare to have pink collars and pink stained towels for a little while! • Amazing color, for about a week people kept asking me if it was pink or purple, but then it faded into this gorgeous jewel toned pink. It's lasted very well, a month later and minimal fading. I didn't have much of a staining problem, it stained the back tips of my glasses and a little bit on towels. Report Comment
  • This is one of the most original SFX colors, it works different on everyone's hair. It can look lighter or darker, brighter or duller, depending on whose hair you paint it on. Report Comment
  • I mixed this with pink and it added great tonal depth and lowlights. Has a great fluorescence that mixes well with similar SFX colors. Can't wait to try this by itself! Report Comment
  • Good color. I put it between Wildflower and Atomic pink in a rainbow and it blended really nicely and held its color well. No problems with it at all. Report Comment
  • I love this color! It doesn't say it glows under black light but it does. It's been in my hair for 3 months or so and it's still super bright in some places but as I live in Florida, the sun has faded some parts too. But it's an amazing color, and if you like atomic pink, this is a good "fading" color. Report Comment
  • Nice fuchsia colour. It bleeds, but in my experience manic panic bleeds worse. It also stays very long. If you change colour frequently, I'd go for something different. When I tried to bleach over it a few months later, my hair was still cotton candy pink. Report Comment
  • wow my haircolor hasn't rubbed off on stuff so easyli since i used directios. I got it on my neck and pillows and was a little harder to remove than other colors i've used from spfx. But i really loved it thogh,it's super vibrant and was a little more hot pink than i expected. But i would defenitly rekomend this to people looking for a deep and vibrant pink and as with all spfx colors has great staying power:D Report Comment
  • I use Virgin Rose 50/50 with conditioner, and I love it! It's "the one". I get no rub off at all either, but I assume that is down to the mix rather than using it neat. I was previously an Atomic Pink fan, but didnt like the fact it leaned more to a red tone than a purple. My mix creates a much lighter result than the pictures above, more pink than purple. • The pic in my avatar is Virgin Rose over my unbleached hair. I'm so excited about how it turned out that I want to tell all the people who have been told that dyeing unbleached hair won't work that it's all nonsense! My naturally medium-dark brown hair is now full-on pink, no bleach required. Also: Manic Panic is a joke; Special Effects is a whole other story. Hooray!!! Report Comment
