A really unusual and lovely turquoise shade from Special Effects. This semi-permanent hair colour looks great on hair that’s been pre-lightened. It’s a mainly bright blue shade with some green tones.

To get the best possible colour from Fishbowl, make sure you apply it to pale blonde hair. It’s a brilliant bright blue that shifts slightly to jade green depending on the light. This gives it a really unique lustre.

Fish Bowl tends to last around 6-8 weeks on bleached hair but this will vary depending on the colour and condition of your hair. It fades very elegantly to a soft pastel blue if it’s been applied to a light base.

For best results, particularly with lighter shades, apply to hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blond. Apply to freshly washed (not conditioned), dry or damp hair. Apply using latex gloves. We recommend using a tinting brush to ensure even coverage. Work the dye into the hair for a few minutes and leave for at least 15 minutes (you may leave this dye on for longer as long as you cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap to prevent it drying out). Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.

For longer lasting colour, use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

  • Precautions

Although these dyes do not contain the harsh chemicals of other dyes such as ammonia and peroxide, there is still a small chance that they could cause an allergic reaction. For this reason it is imperative that you do a strand and sensitivity test before using them. An ingredients list is available above and can also be found on the product’s packaging (ingredients list can sometimes be found under our sticker). NEVER use any of these products on eyelashes or eyebrows.

As you would expect from a dye these colours can stain textiles, ceramic, wood and other surfaces as well as temporarily stain skin and nails so be careful to cover surfaces and wear gloves when applying the colour. Once used these products may also rub off your hair and skin and onto clothing and bedding. Although this usually disappears after washing it’s worth bearing this in mind. Staining to bathtubs, basins and showers can easily be cleaned using a bleach based cleaning product.

    Do not mix with peroxide.

Colours may cause permanent staining to bleached or chemically treated hair. Tip: You can avoid staining on your skin by applying a layer of vaseline anywhere on your skin where dye may come in contact.

Reviews of Special Effects Fish Bowl

  • I had about 2" dark brown roots, the rest of my hair was Punky Colour "Turquoise". Being as they stopped selling that dye at the only place I knew to get it at, I needed to go to a new brand fast. So I bought SFX "fishbowl" and got to work with a friend of mine. She bleached my roots to a golden blonde, then I rebleached some of the roots that were darker than the others, and some brown parts that she might've missed. I applied the dye, the smell is alright, and it has a thick texture, which made it easy to apply. I walked around all day with a bag on my head to let it "cook" in, then rinsed it out in cold water then added a deep conditioner with some of the leftover dye in it. The parts of my hair that were already blue came out a beautiful turqouise, the twice-bleached roots came out an awesome color too, but the other roots that were golden came out a light sea green :[ But overall I'd say this is a great dye to use and I recommend it, just make sure your hair is bleached a light enough color to make it come out it's true color :]
  • I used this on a strip of bleached hair in the back of my head and it turned out beautifully. It's lasted a good long while as well, much better than the purple dye I used from a different company.
  • Make sure your hair is either naturally really light or bleached when using this dye. i love the color after bleaching it but not using toner. The yellow after color of bleached hair makes this dye have different variants of turqoise all the way to lime green sometimes. It fades differently each time you dye it, depending on the condition of your hair and how often you wash it. Overall a very good dye and a beautiful shade of turquoise/teal.
  • It fades to a weird minty color, and like all blues doesn't have a very long lifespan, but it's absolutely gorgeous. I dyed bleached chunks in black hair, and the contrast is beautiful. The first SFX color I've used consistently until my bottle ran out! I need to go buy some more.
  • I love this color. It's a beautifully vibrant blue/green! It didn't last nearly long enough for me though. I had to redye it after a week.
  • I think this is a really neat color. You can make several different hues depending on how platinum your hair is before putting it in. I like it over near-white hair, it makes a sort of azure color. Fades quicker than some SFX do. Bleached out with little trouble.
  • I loooove this color. It turns out almost exactly like the swatch and looks awesome on bleached hair. The only drawback is that it does fade quickly. Mixing it with other colors gives it greater depth and longevity, so it can be pretty versatile regardless. It fades to a lighter and lighter blue without getting ashy or grey. Definitely a color to try!
  • I loved the different variations in color that this dye gives. It lasted pretty long for a blue dye, which impressed me a lot.
  • I applied Fish Bowl over hair that was bleached white. It started off really bright with some blue and green highlights, but it's definitely not one of SFX's best. I've only had it on for about three days, washed it once, and it's already sea-foam green in most parts. I'm gonna try mixing it with a tiny bit of Blue Mayhem to make it last longer. At least it's really pretty and shiny.
  • Usually I dye my hair every week, as I just get bored of the colour. I used Fish Bowl and loved it! Had it for 2 months now and just reordered some more. The colouring is beautiful, the only thing thats sad is that if you dye over it it goes more green, and it also fades to a grey colour. Still, the shades you get from it are gorgeous! And it even inspired my artistic friend to do some drawings! Buy it!
  • Fish bowl worked brilliantly for me. A nice deep turquoise without being too dark. Love it, will use again happily and would recommend it!
