If you’ve been craving a really bright hot-pink colour, nothing matches Atomic Pink. This neon pink is almost luminous and it glows neon pink in sunlight and fluoresces a bright pale pink under UV! It’s extremely long-lasting and most people find it lasts several months when applied to bleached hair.

Because Atomic Pink is so densely pigmented, you may experience some colour transfer onto your skin/clothing/bedding/towels etc. for the first week or two, especially when your hair is wet. Usually this kind of staining is easily removed by washing, but you may wish to take precautions like wearing dark coloured clothing or using old pillowcases until the colour transfer subsides.

Colour rub-off can be reduced by diluting the colour with conditioner or Special Effects toner, although this will lighten the colour slightly.

It’s no surprise that Atomic Pink is our best-selling pink. This stunning colour needs to be seen to be believed because photos can’t do it justice; it’s even brighter and more dazzling in real life!

Usage

For best results, particularly with lighter shades, apply to hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blond. Apply to freshly washed (not conditioned), dry or damp hair. Apply using latex gloves. We recommend using a tinting brush to ensure even coverage. Work the dye into the hair for a few minutes and leave for at least 15 minutes (you may leave this dye on for longer as long as you cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap to prevent it drying out). Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.

For longer lasting colour, use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

  • Ingredients ⮣

  • Precautions +/-

Although these dyes do not contain the harsh chemicals of other dyes such as ammonia and peroxide, there is still a small chance that they could cause an allergic reaction. For this reason it is imperative that you do a strand and sensitivity test before using them. An ingredients list is available above and can also be found on the product’s packaging (ingredients list can sometimes be found under our sticker). NEVER use any of these products on eyelashes or eyebrows.

As you would expect from a dye these colours can stain textiles, ceramic, wood and other surfaces as well as temporarily stain skin and nails so be careful to cover surfaces and wear gloves when applying the colour. Once used these products may also rub off your hair and skin and onto clothing and bedding. Although this usually disappears after washing it’s worth bearing this in mind. Staining to bathtubs, basins and showers can easily be cleaned using a bleach based cleaning product.

    Do not mix with peroxide.

Colours may cause permanent staining to bleached or chemically treated hair. Tip: You can avoid staining on your skin by applying a layer of vaseline anywhere on your skin where dye may come in contact.

Reviews of Special Effects Atomic Pink

  • The only word I can think of to describe this colour is 'psychotic.' It is absolutely amazing. It starts out as an absolutely /blinding/ deep neon pink and just fades brighter and bright over the course of many months. It absolutely refuses to ever go away. I've even seen it manage overthrow a demi-perm blue black dye job over two weeks. Sure, it didn't get completely back to its original florescence, but it returned to a rather vibrant darker pink. Definately good for anyone looking for a long-lasting, blinding pink, this would be a perfect dye. But avoid it if you don't think you'll be able to commit to months and months and months of bright as hell pink, because no black dye nor bleach is able to completely tame it. Report Comment
  • If you want insanely bright pink, look no further! It's so insanely bright and day-glo that some people couldn't believe it was actually my hair! It starts out a vibrant pink and fades brighter and brighter with each wash. This colour has been described as "the beast" because it's just impossible to get rid of, so be prepared to love it for a while (although it's hard not to!). Report Comment
  • This is a truly amazing color. It is an incredibly intense shade of hot pink and stays that way even when it is faded. It turned to a lighter but still bright pink coral color for me the first time I dyed my hair this color. Bleaching it(even after it has faded) will most likely leave you with a highlighter shade of pink. THIS COLOR STAYS. You have been forewarned. Report Comment
  • I love this dye! After using it I've had people come up to me and ask if it was real.It is very intense pink that will last for months. This is my first time using it and I've had it for around a month and its still as bright as the day I dyed it. Make sure you can deal with this color for quite awhile. Report Comment
  • I used this over faded dyes and it's still an amazing color. Definitely stands out on its own and has an incredible neon glow. It retains incredibly well, even in damaged hair like mine; it barely ran when washed. Overall, a fantastic choice for a pink dye. Report Comment
  • This is a freaking awesome color, even for guys. Of all the single-color dye jobs I ever did, I think I got more compliments on Atomic Pink than any other. Not surprising, since it's bright enough to light up an entire city block when you're outdoors, so people tend to notice you. I just wish I were satisfied with having the same color for months on end, because it's so absolutely bloody impossible to bleach out that I'm forced to avoid it most of the time. But, hey, if you're Pink Forever, this is your dye, hands down. If it weren't for roots, you'd never need another bottle. Report Comment
  • This is my absolute favorite color of all time! It lasts MONTHS!! It also looks so bright and vibrant and it's awesome to see your hair glow at clubs under the black light! I've ALWAYS gotten compliments on my hair when I use this shade!! People even asked if it was fake hair because it was so bright!! Report Comment
  • Atomic Pink is brilliant. It's the only starch based dye on the market that seems to be permanent. Because of that, its brilliant value for money; one application could last you months whereas LaRiche's Flamingo Pink will last a few weeks at best. The coverage is fantastic. Your colour will appear even, even if you have multi-tonal bleaching disasters, as i did. Also, it leaves your hair in great condition. It really softens up hair and can help sort out the dryness of pre bleaching! My only complaint is that after multiple applications its very difficult to remove from your hair. This isnt usually a problem if you use a vibrant colour over the top, but it can be an issue if you're wanting to go a pastel colour or blonde! Report Comment
  • I used this dye for the first time just before Xmas 2010 on unbleached hair over Colour Before restorer. Loved the result and was vivid on my darker hair too only one bug bear was it was hard to get out of the bottle. Report Comment
  • Just addicted to this colour. LOVE IT. Vevry anoing, that it is out of stock. Thebest colour ever, and leaves your hair look shiny and healthy. Report Comment
  • It's just simply amazing. Doesn't fade out and makes your hair look as if it has almost 5 other shades of pink in it, which makes it look healthy and beautiful. Definitely recommend! Report Comment
  • I love the colour, I think my favourite comment from my friend was 'Can I eat it, it looks just like really rich angel delight/candy floss'... Which pretty much sums the colour up. It lasts for ages, even on my patchy bleach job, it created loads of different tones and depths and faded slowly to a light peachy colour. Would recommend it to anyone wanting something vivid! definately makes you stand out on a cloudy day :) xxxx Report Comment
  • i love this color! <3 Report Comment
  • Great colour :) Report Comment
  • Lol don't try to dye blonde over the top of it because it doesn't work Report Comment
  • I've had really heavily bleached hair for 5years now. My natural color is black. Atomic pink has lasted over 6months in my hair!!! Still quite bright! Nothing lasts this long! I highly recommend Special Effects! Report Comment
  • This hair dye is completely invincible! Bleach doesnt even cover it! Amazing hair dye though, just be sure that its a colour you want to last for aaaages! It seems the more you wash it the brighter it becomes and when it does eventually fade after months it becomes a lovely paler pink colour which stil looks fab :) x Report Comment
  • I got this colour fter looking at the reviews and its fantastic, i bleached my hair first ( it was red and turned bright blonde with a hint of pink) then put this dye on and came out fab. I done this nearly 2 weeks ago and hasnt faded at all. i have been washing my hair using cold water and have found its great. I dyed half of my middle of the back legnth hair and havent even used half a bottle which is great so got some left for next time. I used this colour with electric blue (so my hair is half and half) and colours go so well together and keep having so many people commenting. Would def recommend this colour to anyone who wants a bright in your face colour :-) Report Comment
  • Beware, this dye is the Superman of dyes--It will withstand any dye you try to cover it with, it will come back again and again, you will need to bleach numerous times before you get rid of this color! It starts out so bright it is blinding, this pink is so pretty, but it is pretty permanent! If you decide to use this dye, pink should be your favorite color. Atomic Pink is called atomic for a reason! Report Comment
  • Bought this back in 2012, it stains clothes and lasts ages, even if it fades it still looks nice. Well worth the money. Report Comment
  • It never dies. Ever. Report Comment
  • I loved this colour, it didn't budge from my hair for months (damn roots though). I did bleach over it once because I'd originally put it over slightly ginger hair and wanted to get it a bit lighter, and it bleached to a peach colour at the ends with white roots- so make sure you're gonna want pink hair for a while if you're using this! Overall, a gorgeous colour that refuses to fade and will definitely get you some attention! Report Comment
  • Has anyone used this colour recently? As I really want pink hair and this is what I was thinking of using but seen somewhere that someone used this colour then used it again doing nothing different from time before and it come out more red than pink?? Anyone else had this happen? Thanks Report Comment
  • Jodie86 my first go at Atomic pink 2 months ago I was worried about it being on the red side - it was. It did fade to pink though. However I have learnt now just to dilute half with conditioner and it suits me just fine :) Report Comment
  • Fantastically long-lasting color. May appear more reddish than pink at first, but like Swilks said, diluting with conditioner usually helps it appear more pink. Report Comment
  • this is an amazing color. i have been pink twice before, and used crazy color and ion semi permanent dyes and special effects is 100% better. i have had it about a month now, it has faded but only the smallest amount and its still such a nice vibrant color. id recommend this to anyone whos wanting a pink that will last forever and stay a nice color, definitely will repurchase this in the future. amazing product 5* Report Comment
  • This will not fade, no matter what you do. I took regular hot showers, and even went into the pool all summer and nothing faded. Ridiculous. I use this as a base for all my pink-type colors. :) Report Comment
  • A teensy tiny bit of this in white conditioner makes a gorgeous pastel pink - and 1 bottle should last the year at least!! Report Comment
  • About how long does it last? I'm going to dye my hair 4 colours and I don't know if its going to look good. Colours; Pillarbox Red Spring Green Atomic Turquiose Atomic Pink Do the dyes that are atomic stay in longer? Report Comment
  • It's called "ATOMIC" for a reason, you will never ever get this out of your hair. Report Comment
  • Used this year's ago when I was all pink. I always used it diluted to make it bubblegum hot pink. I must be the only lucky one in the world however because it bleaches out no problem for me. Even when I used it full strength on my ends to create dip dye it still bleached out easy. :) Report Comment
  • If I mixed this with a drop of yellow and diluted a bit do you think it would be more coral? I want a long lasting pink coral so I figured id give this a try based on the reviews :) Report Comment
  • This product is amazing! I have used other pink dyes in the past and nothing else comes close. I put it over bleached hair and it lasts for months, seriously MONTHS! One bottle is enough to do my shoulder length hair completely with a little left over for root touch ups. It fades out to a lovely even bright pink, I get so many comments and compliments. Great product would highly recommend. Report Comment
  • I've been using Speciel Effects Atomic Pink for about 3-4 years now and i absolutely love it! It's my favorite color and product. I recommend this page, this color and product to everybody who ask me how i dye my hair. Thanks HairCrazy for wonderful service and a wonderful color! Report Comment
  • The first time I ever did unnatural hair I used Atomic Pink and is called atomic for a reason! It never EVER comes out. Now, the color is absolutely gorgeous. Stunning, really. People can't help but notice you and comment. Even after bleaching my hair felt and looked glossy and soft and shiny. But when I had to get rid of the pink hair for a new job (not because I wanted to!) I discovered its staying power. And then, desperately trying to get the pink out in time for my new job, ruined my hair over-bleaching and ended up with a pixie cut. So just be careful. If you use this color you should love pink and be committed to the color for a little while. When you're ready to color over it, be patient. If you're doing another vibrant color you'll likely be okay but if you want to go pastel or blonde, you're going to have to practice Buddha like patience. That pink is going to stick around! • Bought this a couple of months ago. Lightened my hair to a gingery blonde first and then put this on with some other shades. This pink was bright, you do not need platinum blonde hair for this at all. The other colours have faded out but this pink is still going strong! It's stayed bright. The colours bleed in the first week or so of being done but it gradually stops. The pink bleeds on pillow cases if hair gets oily but only a little. Will be stripping and lightening my hair again next week so will see if the pink remains or not. Great stuff definitely recommend. Report Comment
  • I used this over faded crazy colour burgandy which was very violet toned once faded , it turned out the most gorgeous hot pink / fuchsia / magenta , with real depth and saturation . Ita not bright nor dull it's a in between hue that glows hot hot hot pink in indoor lighting and sun . I absolutely love it . It's a total winner and I'm so glad I chose it . I can't comment on how long lasting it is as it's only had one wash so far. I'm hoping it will be with me forever haha . Report Comment
  • Update on the pink! I stripped and bleached my hair again and every colour came out aside from the pink which did not budge! It went slightly orange pink due to slightly showing my gold base but aside from that it was bright candy pink. So I put the pink all over my hair mixing it with the blue on the roots to create purple roots. The purple has since faded but this pink is not budging! It goes from a strong pink to a very bright candy pink. This is a stain not a dye. It is a colour you will have to grow and cut out to be honest. I'm considering putting one of the purples over it next so will have to see if it can be covered at all. It has gradually stained my pillowcases but it is gradual, however it does wash out of them with the right washing agents so I'm never too bothered. Report Comment
  • I've been using this and the Pimpin Purple one for years now on my silver streak. I don't use any bleach and the pink stays in forever! It fades but is still pink after weeks and weeks. The purple fades to a similar pink but when fresh gives a deeper colour if I fancy something more subtle (the rest of my hair is dyed black). Report Comment
