Pravana Chromasilk Vivids Violet is our best-selling purple and it’s not hard to see why. It’s extremely saturated with pigment and produces a really long-lasting bright purple hair colour. It tends to photograph bluer than it looks in real life; expect a perfect purple that’s not too blue and not too pink. It looks amazing on any skin-tone.

You’ll get the most long-lasting and vibrant results if you apply Violet to pale blonde, bleached hair but this colour is so strong that it will cover darker blondes well and you can even use it to liven up faded permanent plum and red colours with a noticeable violet tint. It might even be worth trying on natural hair but as it’s designed for pre-lightened hair we can’t promise you’ll get good results on virgin hair. Pravana Violet packs so much pigment that it will leave your hair looking super shiny.

The only downside to all this pigment is that it has a tendency to run for the first 5 to 10 washes. Expect Violet to rub off onto your skin, clothes, bedding etc. so take precautions like wearing dark clothes or covering your pillow with an old towel. It will rub off most when your hair is damp.

Like Special Effects’ amazing Deep Purple, Violet tends to last months on bleached hair and if you’re committed to purple it’s the perfect choice!

Apply directly to pre-lightened hair using a tint brush and avoiding getting colour on your scalp. Do not mix with peroxide. Allow to process for at least 20-40 minutes before rinsing or for increased vibrancy apply to hair, cover with a plastic cap and allow to process under a hooded dryer for 20 minutes.

Reviews of Pravana Violet

  • Best violet EVER. It's a must-have for all purple lovers. It fades very very slow though, so if you want to change colours often I would not reccomend it. Looks a lot bluer in photos than it really is.
  • This is a beautiful colour but I was disappointed by how quickly it fades. I was hoping I'd be able to wash my hair in between dyes but I can't. A bit of a shame but I'm sticking with it as the colour is gorgeous and Plum Directions, since re formulation, turns my hair a blue/green colour.
  • Hello Cybirea, can you please tell me what combination of dye you used to get the color you have in your picture..? That is Exactly the purple that I want ! I ordered 2 tubes of Pravana Violet and I was thinking about ordering Wild Orchid and adding just a tad to cancel out some of the super deep blue tone in the Violet. I really love the eggplant purple in your main picture. Please let me know how to get that color. Thank you.
  • Brilliant dye. My first Pravana colour, and my hair loves it! Really highly pigmented, so you don't need much compared to some of the other brands. It looks much more purple than any of the photos too (it keeps showing up navy in all my pictures!), but the coverage is great and doesn't fade much either. This and SFX wild flower is going to see me through June! And I've still got at least half a tube to use for another time :-)
  • My go-to from now on! Used violet over my natural auburn hair and it turned out as a gorgeous plum/eggplant color. Slow to fade but does bleed out a bit onto surrounding areas of hair and skin initially. The color is highly saturated so I was able to mix equal parts dye (1/2 tube) to equal parts conditioner and it was still as intense as initial the test strip. Cleans off of surfaces instantaneously with a bleach spray cleaner, and it essentially wiped right off skin with a little peppermint oil (what I had on hand). Fingers required a little extra scrubbing.
  • This worked beautifully on both bleached and dyed (red) hair. Lovely and thick ...a little goes a long way!
  • So is it safe to say I can put this on my ruby red hair that I previously dyed with crazy color fire? I either want to know about this or the pravana vivids wild orchid colour, as am totally in love but am ruby red apresent and am just not sure that's why I joined the forum , so hopefully I can get a little bit of help in the right direction without going disastrously wrong...any advice appreciated, thanks Tanya x
  • This is the one violet shade that has major stay power. The only downfall is everytime I put my hands through my hair my finger tips would turn purple. It also is pretty messy and bleeds like crazy.
  • This is practically black out of the tube so if you're using it to tone it will last you an eternity and also full strength or only partial dilution will cover any base! I actually though prefer MP ultra violet for toning as its so blue to knock out the brass... This is more of a neutral.
  • I love this color as it covers so many bases, but as others have stated, it is sooo super pigmented that you kind of Have to dilute it, which I love! It means that I use less dye per use! :)
  • Does anyone have a photo of their hair this color?after using pravanna violet.I would love to see the outcome. Thanks
  • I absolutely love this colour!! I only used half a tube mixed with the same amount of conditioner, but to be honest i probably could have got away with using half that amount of dye! This really is a perfectly balanced purple.
  • A true violet: even if it´s on the cool side nobody ever mistakes it for blue. I was set on a warmer purple, but this shade it´s GORGEOUS. It´s like a jewel. It goes well enough with my skin, fair with mostly neutral undertones and a balance of yellow and red overtones that tends to read peachy on camera - tough I´d probably need to throw a tiny bit of red/magenta in the mix to make the purple look seamless with my complexion. It took very well on my bleached parts (lifted more to a 9/8 than a 10), showing very true to swatch. It also takes surprisingly well into virgin hair: where it overlapped with mine (medium brown with strong golden-beige undertones) it turned it into a shiny charcoal. As soon as I saw how easily I could remove the stains from my old, porous bathtub, I was sold. For some reasons, with this color is super easy to get everything back to white, which did NOT happen for Stargazer. It´s very pigmented and I agree that the lasting power is good. But it can´t do miracles: I go to the gym 4 or 5 times per week, and shampoo at least 3 times per week. Even with sulphate-free shampoo, I don´t think I will ever find something able to stay vivid after two weeks . But this is easy to apply and literally makes no mess, so more frequent applications are not going to be a problem.
