Reviews of Manic Panic Rockabilly Blue

  • It stains EVERYTHING, but I lovelove the color. Very bright and very blue. If your hair isn't very light when you apply it, it will fade to a muddy green very fast. The more bleached your hair is, the longer it will last (and even be difficult to bleach out). You need to be very careful when dying your hair not to stain everything, and it does rub off on your hands for a while after dying. It does not stick to your roots. You will need something else to put at your roots, otherwise the rockabilly will stain like crazy as it rubs off your roots and onto your hands, your bed, etc. Only color that I've found that looks similar in brightness is Special Effects Blue Mayhem (haven't tried it, though). Rockabilly is a really nice color if you don't mind a bit of hassle (such as washing your hair upside down so you don't stain your skin in the shower!); it's stuck for over a month on my hair and is still a nice color. It doesn't seem to have a green or purple base and is remaining very blue. Personally, I love it.
  • This color is INTENSE. It's a big mess to work with, but I personally love it. I had no idea it was so much stronger than other Manic Panic colors, so I didn't dilute it the first time I used it. My hands, arms, ears, neck, etc. were all blue by the time I was done dying. If you are very careful, it's certainly possible to avoid staining anything important. I wore a black turtleneck for a week after applying. Tub also ended up tinted blue- with a lot of bleach it will come out of most surfaces, including (in my experience) linoleum, painted walls, some plastic- it did permanently stain my white earbuds. I'd recommend diluting it 50/50 with some other similar color, or just conditioner. At full strength, it was still extremely blue after 4 months, with only a little fading at the roots. For the first month and a half some blue would rub off on my hands when I touched my hair, and I stained some clothes and pillowcases- definitely avoid light colors. Fortunately, I used this color in the winter. Like the other reviewer said, it fades only to blue- after more than 6 months, it still has not washed out, not even close (some reapplication since then). Never looked anything but blue- not green, purple, or gray. I did an okay job of bleaching my hair, but with this color the results were great.
  • This dye is essentially the colour of Sonic the hedgehog, which is awesome, but it will stain your skin and anything it comes in contact with. Staying power in the hair is alright, but it fades to the typical weird blue-green colour and isn't quite as long-lived as other MP dyes.
  • I really enjoyed this colour. The consistency is very good, not too runny (as stargazer or crazy colour) not too thick (like directions). If you massage your hair a bit after applying it then you do not need to tint brush all the way to the ends. The products just goes where it is supposed to go. I used it as a touch up over directions midnight blue and it made it the best blue ever! A strong deep true blue with staying power. As for the staining part, whenever I dye my hair, I have an all-purpose surface cleaner standing by and spray the accidental droplets of colour. I do not wait to finish my hair and then clean. I do it on the spot and everything stays clean!
  • Vibrant color and smells amazing, however the staining is a problem. Woods does a great job at explaining it a few comments above- READ IT AND BELIEVE IT! I was prepared for the staining, but it gets frustrating to either not touch your hair, or risk turning your hands blue (again). By the time it stopped bleeding everywhere I found the color had faded considerably, thus requiring another applying of this magical smurf solution... ^_^;
  • I second all of the above on the amount of staining. A week after dying, I leaned my head against a white wall and left a blue smudge (I managed to get it out). If your hair is long enough to rub against your clothes, wear dark clothes or ones you don't mind turning blue. As for the color, it's a really vibrant blue but also a little darker than I expected. I'm not really sure how to review its staying power because the first time I used it, there were a few weeks before it started fading to that nasty greyish color. The second time I used it, however, it faded after a week (and I didn't wash my hair extra or anything - I can't figure out why there was such a difference).
  • Awesome colour, just dyed my hair for the first time with it. It smudges a bit on your skin but it's not that hard to wipe off with a bit of soap :)
  • This dye is definitely one of my favourites for a true pastel blue, when diluted heavily. Haven't used this yet at full strength, but I've heard it bleeds a lot, so I would always dilute the dye, even if only a bit :D
  • Amazing blue color! Fades a /little/ quickly, but fades to a super nice color... love it so far.
  • This blue is insane! My hair was white/silver when I put this on, and it started off as a deep, velvety blue with some violety tones to it. As it faded, it just got brighter and brighter. A month after dying (and washing my hair 2-3x a week) it had faded to an intense cobalt blue. I wanted to switch colors, so I began trying to force-fade it, and the spots where it faded the most were a seafoamy green. I noticed in general that my roots faded quicker than the rest of my hair, I'm assuming because they weren't as processed/porous as my mid-lengths and ends. Immediately after dying, it did rub off on e v e r y t h i n g. After I washed it the first time, it stopped, and I didn't really notice any bleeding after a couple of weeks.
  • I actually use this to tone the orange out of my hair. I just dilute with a conditioner and work it through my hair and let sit for several minutes. It does a fantastic job of getting the stubborn orange and warmth out of my hair! The strands that turned a little too blue actually faded to a silvery grey.
  • Where to start... i LOVE the colour and it has good lasting power... BUT... I have been dying my hair for YEARS now and never have i EVER had this much of a bleed with a product. I had this mixed with the Manic Panic after midnight blue, so maybe that affects it aswell, but it just kept making my neck and ears blue, kept on getting in clothes, sheets, towels, EVERYWHERE, I have used a LOT of blues (Don't believe me? check my timeline)- and have been dying my hair blue for ages. But I simply won't get this product again because it bleeds everywhere. You can get the same blue colour with Directions, which bleeds less in my opinion. Ofcourse it can bleed a little in the beginning. But I have had this for two months now, and even though I clean it, my neck still goes blue.
  • I really like Rockabilly Blue although the reviews are not kidding about the staining, I had gloves on but they must have gotten torn somewhere along the way because my hands were full blown smurf blue but it was pretty easy to get off with some apple cider vinegar. It's been 10 days since I've dyed it and I've washed my hair about 5 times so far, it's still extremely vibrant with barely any fading.
