Manic Panic Purple Haze

Purple Haze is a distinctive velvetty purple which appears to glow in bright light! It has a strong pink base so won’t fade to blue. This makes it a great colour for covering darker blonde bases, though you’ll get the best results when you apply this to pale blonde hair.

Purple Haze has tones of pigment which gives it is gorgeous lustrous shine and great coverage. Direct dyes cause no damage to the hair and work by depositing colour on the hair without the use of oxidants. The downside is that this also means the colour has a tendency to run when washing and rub off on clothing, skin, bedding etc. Please take precautions to protect your clothing textiles (we recommend wearing dark colours until the colour settles).

For best results apply to hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blonde. Do not mix with peroxide.

Shampoo hair using a deep cleansing shampoo. Apply to freshly washed, dry hair. Apply evenly using a tint brush and comb through until frothy. Cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave for 30 minutes. You can apply heat to intensify the process.

Rinse with cold water, away from your face.

Reviews of Manic Panic Purple Haze

  • Lovin' me some Purple Haze right now, the staying power is so so, depending how often you wash your hair, and with what shampoos and conditioners. Other than that it is a really pretty pinkish purple (fades kinda light pink lavender), covers hair that is a reddish blonde (by processing) rather easily. Check out my timeline for photos of it! Great product!
  • I love this color. If I need a 'fall back i'm bored' color I always go back to this one. It looks great. Honestly I think it's the perfect shade of purple.
  • This color fades too quickly and isn't a vibrant purple. Even right after application, it was a weird ashy shade.
  • The colour is wonderful. I absolutely love this shade. But it started fading in some spots before my first wash (four days after dying), which was a little silly. But it is a beautiful purple, apart from that...
  • I love Manic Panic's Purple Haze. It stays a while, and when you let it fade all the way out, it goes to a very pretty lavender/silver color. It does well on bleached hair but hair doesn't have to be bleached to pale blonde, only to like a yellow color. For maximum results i let it stay in my hair for about 6 hours.
  • I love this colour its on the pink side of purple and mixes nicely with pinks. It did however wash out rather quickly.
  • It's my absolute favorite purple shade. It stains almost nothing it touches, and if it does stain, a light scrub gets the color right out. The problem is, even with two washes in a week, it washes out. So disappointing =/ it's becoming too much work.
  • My experience with this was horrid! It was my fault though. I didn't bleach my hair enough, and it turned a nasty light purple/brown. On the pale blonde parts it was gorgeous, but other parts were disgusting. But overall, I'd try it again to get the actual color.
  • This shade of purple is great, and looks very good with pinker skin tones. But, like all Manic Panic colors, it barely shows up on natural/un-bleached hair, and hardly ever lasts much longer than two or three washes. The longer you leave it in, the better it will look, but it won't remain vibrant -- I swear, if you so much as LOOK at a shower, it will go running for the hills. Weekly touch-ups are almost a given if you bathe regularly and really want this color to stick. Overall, I feel this dye is just far too little payoff in exchange for way too much upkeep. I don't think I'll be buying it again.
  • I have used this on my ends and prior to that in a few strand tests (undiluted) and I think the staying power is great, even after multiple washes it faded very little. On the hair when undiluted it reminds me of a cadburys purple colour, in the pot and on first application it appears a pink based purple but when it fades it appears slightly more blue purple to me.
  • Oh I forgot to put something in my last comment - I have experienced no run off at all with this colour. I tried to fade it the other day in the bath scrubbing the ends (bad I know) with shampoo and the shampoo lather didn't even change to purple/lilac.
  • I adore this colour, it's got a good mix of blue tones with the warmer tones. It comes off skin pretty well which is good for me because I'm always messy when dyeing (no matter what I try). I have stained the shower when washing the dye out but that cleared away in a couple of days, I find that I also don't get much leaking/bleeding of the colour. However this just doesn't last, it fades off my hair in about two weeks. I do sweat a bit because of medications so that might be causing the fast fading. I'd say anyone who sweats a lot or swims shouldn't use this dye simply because of how quickly it faded on me.
  • So after applying this color to my already faded pink hair it turned out to be a bit of a darker purple with a blue-ish tone, I'm a little worried because that's not what I wanted exactly.
  • I put this over faded hot pink hair. It turned out an amazing purple with some pink undertones. The pink I had in my hair was/is really pesky to get out but I am not complaining. BEAUTIFUL color!!!
  • I just used this for the first time and I love it. When I put it in I put it on freshly bleached hair. I left it in for about 5 hours and after rinsing it I rinsed with vinegar and followed that with more water. Its got a bit more of a pinky tone to it than I was expecting but I love it. I went on even, even though the top or my hair was lighter than the bottoms. I've washed it twice (with sulphate free shampoo and conditioner) and while the water did turn really purple there is no difference in the colour of my hair :) My hair is naturally very dye and coarse and relaxing and bleaching it left it horribly damaged. After using this my hair unbelievably soft - I can't stop touching it :P
  • I really liked the purple this made, very lovely. I will totally use this dye again when I'm looking for a quick fading medium purple :D
  • Could I put this beautiful colour on ruby red hair at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated
  • First off, thanks to the wonderful folks on this forum - you've helped me out a bunch. My mother, 66, is recuperating from surgery - so she's pretty much housebound. Randomly, she texts me - "David - can you make my hair Kelly Osbourne Purple?" Yes, Yes I can. On this forum, I learned using 1 heaping tablespoon of Manic Panic Purple Haze + 3/4 cups of cheap white conditioner (and 1 hour 10 minute of processing) - made her natural white/gray hair - Osbourne Perfection. Thank you - thank you for all of the advice on this forum. I was so scared that her hair would be like mine in the 1990's - Super goth punk rock purply hair. No - it came out perfect. (Though sadly, it will probably wash out quickly.) She loves it - and it gave her a confidence boost. To that - I thank you all. XOXO
  • I had previously tried another MP color, so I went a similar route with this one -- small amount of color, lots of conditioner. It ended up a weird dilute-grape sort of color that I hated. I tried again a week later with a lot more color and ended up with a kind of dull ashy purple that had no depth and faded almost immediately to pink. Strange. I think this color just doesn't work for me. I moved on to Arctic Fox Purple Rain, which I LOVE!
  • On my hair this is a DEEP DEEP purple. it went over some hair sections that still had a bit of blue in them (bad boy blue)
  • Absolutely love the shade this comes out on my bleached ends. On a very pale blonde base this is rich and vibrant, either the colour of a Cadbury's wrapper or a bit pinker, depending on the light. It fades fairly quickly - I would say it loses its vibrancy after 3-4 washes. In summer my ends also started fading blue for some reason.
  • I used this on a friend's hair which was unbleached, dark brown with some grey. It turned out a shade that was dark purple with lots of blue in it. As it faded, it seemed to go even more towards the blue-violet. If someone didn't know the dye was purple, they would swear that it had been blue to begin with! Very odd.
  • The first purple that I ever used that didn't seem to stain everything along with my bath and sink (with exception to some of the very pastel shades I've used, which did not stain much either). As someone who currently lives for reds that will wash out to pink, this was still a nice alternative with lovely pink reflexes in sunlight!
  • Help!! I'm leaving on my first vacation in YEARS... it's the first and only trip my husband and I have ever taken alone after almost 7yrs together! (I had 13+ surgeries for cancer & chiari & stuff so couldn't take a honeymoon or travel til now.) Annnnyway, i had purple rain that's fading... will purple haze work over purple rain or are they different based purples? I love the color from AF, but they were out. At first glance they look the same, but i have MP ultraviolet for blue based later. I want to keep the pink based for awhile. Any help super appreciated!!!!!
