Usage

Directions works best on hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blonde. Some paler shades as well as toners will only work on very light hair. Apply directly to dry or slightly damp, freshly washed (but not conditioned hair) using a tint brush for best results, or use gloved fingers to spread the dye evenly through your hair. Allow to process for at least 15 minutes and do not allow to dry out. Rinse thoroughly. To avoid temporary staining to the skin, apply a layer of Vaseline around your hairline and ears before applying the colour.

Reviews of Directions Pillarbox Red

  • I really feel that this dye gives a good bright shiny colour, which lasts quite well and fades to pink rather than orange. Definately 5 out of 5. Report Comment
  • A long laster that for sure. On natural hair i got a good 10 weeks out of Pillarbox and through that time it faded from a rich wine red to hot true lipstick red and out to a dusky pink. a great dye where a little goes a long way! Report Comment
  • A very true red that does fade to a slightly pinkish colour after a few weeks. This does have good lasting power & is really easy to apply. The tub lasts forever as well. Report Comment
  • Forgot the ever important step of NOT conditioning my hair before I used the dye. It came out a delicious flamingo pink instead. Rocked that for a day or two, then redid it correctly and it came out perfect. Even with the messup, still only used 1/4 of the bottle. XD Report Comment
  • Just bought Pillarbox Red, using it over a Scwarzkoff Live hair dye, has anyone else done this? Want reeeeaaaaaallly bright red, hope it works!! xx Report Comment

  • I love the colour !! when i used it, it was a rich and vibrant red. I had nearly white hair before i used it, it faded pretty fast ( but i wash my hair everyday ><) it went through some lushus colour stages befor going a baby pink before i went over it again. Second time i dyed it,it just has lasted twice as long x3, if your going red and dont want to go ginger after then i recomend this dye !! c: Report Comment
  • this dye is great! I prelightened my hair first until it was kinda orangey, and then put this dye over it. it dyed really evenly and came out a brilliant bright red. I've had it in for two weeks now and no sign of fading, though I have been washing it every other day in cold water, which is supposed to help it stay bright. Report Comment
  • I love this dye! I applied it on Saturday (two days ago). I first bleached my hair to a gingery strawberry blonde. I towel-dried it and painted this dye on with a tint brush. I then covered it with a plastic shower cap. I waited half an hour and warmed my hair through the shower cap with a hairdryer (as this helps speed up the dying process) and then waited another forty five minutes. I rinsed it out with a mixture of cold water and lemon juice and let it dry naturally. It is an amazingly vivid offensive red with strong pink hues. It's not really pillarbox red but I still love it! I've only washed it once since the application, but as I put the remainder of the dye in my shampoo it hasn't seemed to fade [:. Will definitely be buying again! Report Comment
  • Eeeek, I've been dying my hair since I was 12 - I'm 28 now. Manic Panic has been good to me, except their Atomic Turquoise and Pillar Box Red. Used two jars on fresh thirsty bleached hair... it's orange. There is no sign of red at all - even on my tips which were hot pink... turned them orange. Not sure I'll try this one again! • This covered up my washed out live color xxl in mystic violet perfectly! It had washed out as a light brown color and amazingly, after I applied the pillarbox red dye by directions, it came out JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS THE PICTURES ON THIS WEBSITE OF PEOPLE WHO HAD BLEACHED THEIR HAIR BEFOREHAND! I am beyond impressed! Five star product! Report Comment
  • Nice red shade! It runs quite fast to a nice red/pink but I love it :) Report Comment
  • Used this on my boyfriends hair, turned out a very bright red which is what he wanted, but the colour did run out quite fast. It turned to a pink colour which wasn't too bad but now its starting to turn on orange peach colour. Report Comment
  • This colour is luminous! I loved it, though it did fade quite fast. Faded to a sort of pinky-red... still nice. 4 star. Report Comment
  • undiluted, five or more washes later its still very bright and red. the parts that i diluted and mixed with a tiny bit of plum have gone a beautiful even pastel salmon pink, not a baby pink but a very sophisticated pink. very happy with this product :) Report Comment
  • I was pretty disappointed with this colour. I pre lightened my hair to a pale blonde and in yellow light it was a bright red but under natural light when out side it was basically fushsia not a pillerbox red which is cool if that's what you want, but I wanted red, the colour did come out pretty even all over tho. I did try to dye my hair with the same colour later on and got the exact same result which was confusing because I've used other colours from directions before and got amazing results. The dye also bled very badly and would get over everything the dye also would fade extremely fast even just after 1 or 2 washes to a pale pink I soon after used another red dye from another company and it came out a true red no promblem. Least favourite dye ive used from directions as of yet. Report Comment
