Directions works best on hair that has been pre-lightened to pale blonde. Some paler shades as well as toners will only work on very light hair. Apply directly to dry or slightly damp, freshly washed (but not conditioned hair) using a tint brush for best results, or use gloved fingers to spread the dye evenly through your hair. Allow to process for at least 15 minutes and do not allow to dry out. Rinse thoroughly. To avoid temporary staining to the skin, apply a layer of Vaseline around your hairline and ears before applying the colour.

Reviews of Directions Apricot

  • This came out as a pretty, strong orange on my head, not as yellow as it looks in the previews, although it leaves the hair yellow for a long time after it washes out. Goes well pink or purple.
  • More an orange on my head also, though not as bright as it looks in the pot. The is the first time I've felt slightly disappointed with Directions, the colour doesn't seem very concentrated to me, leaving my hair streaky looking even though I put plenty on meaning I had to dye over it again to rectify the patchyness.
  • Definitely more orange than the above swatch. I love this color! It's on my head now, and it's such a bright yet soft orange. It has a lot more yellow than SFX's Napalm Orange (which I've also used). It's not as saturated as Napalm, but it also skirts a little closer to a natural ginger (a LITTLE -- I mean, no one will mistake this for a natural color!).
  • Definitely orange and not apricot. Still a very nice (BRIGHT) colour though.
  • I loved this color. I was going for a orange like Vivienne Westwood. It came out almost how I wanted but it faded really fast.
  • Yep. Undiluted this turned out orange on my hair, like I wanted it to (think seabuckthorn berries). The color faded to yellow after a few washes, so next time I'll try mixing in a tiny drop of cerise and see if that gives the color a longer lifespan. Would be interesting to see how this turns out on unbleached stawberry blonde hair, I imagine it would give a nice boost to the natural ginger tones :)
