LOREAL HI COLOR QUESTIONby soulshayPosted 2 weeks ago
Hi I dyed my hair with L’Oréal hi color in the shade “Deep auburn red” over a month ago.. definitely not the shade I wanted .. could I buy a brighter color I’m thinking “copper red” by the same brand and re dye it?

First uncertain what was the desired shade of hair color. Base on the visible roots assuming the hair color before dying was black. Any color over black hair will only provide a slight added tint of color, because black hair is so dark. Even a dark red semi-permanent dye will only provide a small hint of color and be more visible under direct sunlight if applied to black hair.
The results with the auburn red on black hair is exactly what I would expect.
Copper red is much lighter than a deep auburn red and very likely will not see any change . if there is any change probably will be extremely little. The hair color before dying has a strong influence on the outcome of the hair after dying.
Saving one self time suggest a strand test with a dye upon a very small section of hair. Then checking the strand every few minutes to watch the effects of the dye on the very small section of hair. A strand test provides the time to leave the dye on the hair to get the desired results.
