Matching my roots to my ends (red)by Kay33Posted 1 week, 5 days ago
Hi all I'm new here and in need of help please. A few months ago I had dark brown hair and was in need of a pick me up and decided to go red but as I didn't wnat to bleach my hair because I'd previously had a disaster at a salon with bleach I decided to use Box dye. I found a red box dye which claimed to lift up to 3 levels I obviously knew it would lift too much without bleach if at all but surprisingly it lifted quite well and I was left with a lovely red colour which is really red in the sun with a slight pinkish tone. Problem I have now is I've used the same dye to top up my roots and refresh my ends and my roots are brighter and pinkier than the rest of the lovely red colour I have. How can I match the root to my ends now? I'm happy with the colour on my ends but really need to match the roots. The box I used is live up to 3 level lift deep red I've tried to see if there's a darker one that I can do my roots with but can't find one and scared it won't match. Or am I better off just going a darker red and leaving on the roots for a while then just run through the ends for the last 10 minutes? Thankyou

Really, I do not know. A general rule of thumb is the hair color before dying has an effect on the hair color after dying.
If you use the same brand of red dye used on the roots that you used previously on the ends, the results should be similar.
Desires for perfection just add aggravation when coloring hair I have been changing the hair color for over 35 years, and speak from experience.
hair color does and can change. Learning and growing in knowledge of dying hair is fun, and you can share your knowledge with other people.
These are my opinions and suggestions.
