Lifting black hairby Deedee1Posted 1 week, 5 days ago
I dyed my natural medium brown hair black back in December and I have an a hair appointment at the end of the month, I would like to go back to medium brown hair and add some dark blonde highlights so maybe a level 6? Is that Doable in one session ? My hair salon has said they have colour remover. Would that help ? I want to go for a bronde so a mix of my natural medium brown with the level 6

Depends on if the black dye was a permanent black dye or a semi-permanent black dye. A color remover works okay on permanent dyes, because permanent dyes require developer. The color remover reduces (shrinks) the color molecule so it easier to remove/rinse out of the hair.
A color remover does not work well on semi-permanent dyes, because semi-permanent dyes do not use a developer. Semi-permanent dyes change the hair color by staining the hair. The best results I had using a color remover was on Ponky Color Apple Green. The color remover turned my medium green hair from the Punky Color to a medium to light green hair.
Since mentioned dark blonde highlights, providing this information also. If and when using a color remover, rinse the hair thoroughly at least twice and wash the hair at least twice after using a color remover. If not all/most of the reduced color molecules are removed from the hair and then bleach is applied to the hair, the black color will come back. The color remover is a reduction reaction and bleach is an oxidation reaction. Reduction and oxidation reactions are opposite each other. Using a color remover is like trying to remove a fully inflated tire from a wheel rim. The color remover is like letting air out of the tire to reduce the tire and make the tire easier to remove. The tire is like a color molecule. With less air in the tire, the tire is more easily removed. Bleach does the opposite. Bleach applied is like letting air into a deflated tire until the shape of the tire comes back completely to full.
These are my humble suggestions and opinion.
