Newbie hair help - made a mistake v upsetPosted 1 week, 6 days ago
I am not sure why I did because I usually have my hair dyed to pretty much my natural (very dark brown) to cover up greys and that’s that. No wild colours, never bleached it - love the look on others but I’m not cool enough. Yesterday I went to the hairdressers and had the front half of my hair bleached and then they put on a bright yellow La Riche Directions colour. It looks good but I’m too anxious to now leave the house - there’s no getting over this. How quickly can I put another la riche colour over it? Anything other than yellow?? Please help. I’m really upset.

You can cover it up right away. Directions dyes are semi-permanent, which means they are basically conditioners with pigment and don't do any damage to your hair. Most shades will do fine over yellow. If you want the best sticking power and coverage, apply the dye to dry, shampooed hair with no conditioner in it and leave it in at least an hour.

I really appreciate that, thank you! I’m off to buy a nicer colour this lunch time. Now wondering if the yellow colour will impact the subsequent colour.

Most shades will cover yellow well enough. The only thing you'll have trouble with is a pastel pink, blue, or lavender, since they don't have enough pigment. I personally find purple to be a very versatile and friendly shade to start with when it comes to unnatural tones, but reds and oranges are also very forgiving. Directions has several burgundy wine-ish shades that aren't too bright.
