Red Hair Dyingby Lakeita__Posted 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I dyed my hair using L’Oréal hi color dye and it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to. I used intense red and It’s more dull and dark than I wanted. I want it to be a brighter more vibrant red, is there a way I can achieve this with another dye or temporary dye? Please help!

What was the hair color before using L'Orela Hi Color dye? Based on skin tones and results of the dye in the photos I am assuming either dark brown or black hair was the hair color before dying. Using a dark dye color over a dark hair will result at best similar to the results in the photos. A dark dye will only provide small amounts of color over a dark hair color like dark brown and/or black.
For a bright red or yellow or purple or orange hair result, the hair color has to be light before dying the hair. A rule of thumb is the lighter the hair before dying the brighter the result.
This is my suggestion and opinions.

Thank you for your response. Is there a way I can still achieve a more vibrant red color?

If you're hoping for a brighter red, you will need to lift with bleach first. HiColor does a bit of lift, but not much by itself. As mentioned, you only need an orange base, so it's not as difficult. I'd just recommend strand testing first so you can be sure the level of damage is acceptable to you. If you bleach over your current dye, you'll likely have a bit of a pinkish stain when you lift, which is fine since red can cover it.
