From purple to teal hairby BobabettsPosted 6 days, 23 hours ago
Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing well! Currently I have colored my hair purple, specifically Pravana Chromesilk Vivids in Violet. I am planning to switch to teal next. For color reference I’m thinking Manic Panic’s Atomic Tirquose or Special Effect’s Fishbowl (I heard they went out of business) or Ion Brilliance Azure.
I was wondering couple of things. First being what’s the process of going from purple to teal, as I cannot handle more bleach. Second, what happens if I use Color Oops on either faded or really really faded Pravana’s Violet.
I am open to color suggestions and other opinions since you have experience.
All appreciated :)
Also, I’m more than happy to update if anyone things it’d be helpful for them and would like to see my current color.

The trickiest thing about going teal is just that a strong purple tone will push an aqua-coloured dye toward a cobalt blue instead, so you'll want to fade it down as much as possible. If you can get to a pastel lavender or a muted pinky mauve base, you should be okay, though a strand test is the best way to tell for sure. One of my favorite turquoise dyes in Punky Turquoise, which is fairly pigmented, so it'll give you a bit more wiggle room on how light your base needs to be.
Colour removers like Color Oops tend to turn purple dyes green, which is fine for your purposes, but I'd probably try gentler fading methods first, because it can still be drying in a way that very fragile hair may not like.

Agree with my colleague on using gentler fading methods to try and get a pastel lavender. The Articles Section has an article on 10 ways to remove color/dye that is suggested reading.
My experience with Pravana Violet is that this purple dye is blue based.
This is my suggestion and opinion.
