from red to....?Posted 1 week, 3 days ago
Hey! A year ago I went from my natural brown to bright red hair using Loreal hicolors in red and magenta. I've been maintaining the red color pretty well, but I'm thinking about going purple. I've been searching and I've seen people using blue on top or red hair and getting a deep, dark purple, but i would like a more red toned purple with maybe hints of pink or red. What are my options here? should I use a semi permanent dye on my already red hair? which tones would work? If not purple, what other colours could I turn my red hair into without having to bleach?

I'm not sure your goal shade is necessarily possible with your base, because it's got a lot of warm tones in it. Generally, with that type of purple, you want a mix of magenta pink and cyan. Blue over what you have would lean more plummy, though it doesn't have to be a super dark colour. It could be more of a burgundy shade. Most of your options without lifting your hair are going to be in the red/burgundy range.
If you don't mind taking out some colour with a colour remover like Colorfix or Color Oops, you might get to the point where you can do some purple if you can get to a pinkish or yellow-ish base (no orange tones). It won't do the same damage as bleach, but there's no guarantee that you'll get out enough colour. Those colour removers tend to smell like sulfur and need a lot of rinsing to properly get the colour out.
