My hair doesn’t seem to lift enough to tone greyPosted 1 month, 1 week ago
Hi I’ve used Bleach London Total Bleach kit twice now (4 weeks apart). It’s bleaching powder + 30vol developer. I need to lift to a pale blonde to take a grey toner, but my hair is still quite brassy with a lot of golden tones, see pic. Except the ends which have more of a build-up of bleaching, and I have avoided bleaching over them at home. I would be really grateful for any advise of what I may be doing wrong and how to fix. My natural hair is ashy dark blonde (looks brown) with a lot of red undertones. Thank you so much!

Hi, your hair looks nice on the picture, on the golden side, but not brassy; but then pictures can be deceiving of course. Have you tried tonning your hair, using a strong purple shampoo to see how it goes? try toning your hair first. If toning doesn't work, you just need to lift it past the yellow stage, like you did for the lengths & ends; however I would 'nt recommend using 30 volume of course, 10 volume or lower would be enough and also safer, and of course no overlapping on the very light parts. I hope it helps, good luck!

Thanks so much for you reply. Yes I have used fanola purple shampoo, but it doesn’t seem to make very much difference to the yellow and I can tell it’s definitely not pale enough for the toner I want to use (https://bleachlondon.co.uk/collections/toner-kits/products/lavender-grey-toner-kit). I will try lifting more and thank you so much for the advice about using a gentler developer, that’s a really good point. Thank you!

Since the hair is hard to lift, difficult for myself to make suggestions.
However can share experience trying to get gray hair. In this galaxy not so long ago, a professional and friend applied So Color Cult Gray to my hair. My hair was almost white at the time probably like the inside of a banana peel in color to a very light beige blonde before applying the gray dye. The result was dark green hair. This was a shock. We determined the problem and the reason for the dark green hair. So color cult gray dye is probably highly dark blue based. The little yellow in my hair before dying turned the dark blue base in the gray to green. Yellow and blue make green. So strongly suggest if using So Color Cult make sure there is no yellow left in the hair before dying. Suggest having white hair before dying the hair gray if using So Color Cult. This is my humble suggestions and opinions.

- The GREEN won’t budge. - One dye job, 7 questions. Bleaching Out the Green, Bleaching roots or ends first, bleaching damp hair, green making purple muddy, colors that cover green, Toner before direct dye, how to prevent bleeding in multicolor direct dye.
- HELP! My hair wont go silver, evenly.
- New here! Bleaching and toning.
- I would love to tone my hair, but I'm getting no where
- Uh oh--did I fry my hair? Or can I recover?
