Help dark greyby mandya87Posted 2 weeks, 3 days ago
Hi all, I'm really struggling with ideas of what to do with my hair at the moment, I have had pretty much every colour under the sun. I love really dark grey but I am struggling to find a dye and also how to get there! My tips are orangey from cooper dye, and my roots are practically black with natural grey strands coming through. I have attached a picture any advice welcome, or ideas on colours that may suit me better!

I don't think you'll have an issue w the roots but you'll need to rid the lower hair of the warmth for the grey on the bottom to take. I'm interested to see what other ppl will recommend bc I might like to go a dark grey like that someday, but I also know I might not be able to make it happen due to staining. I think you'll need to lighten/blach the ends again to rid it of the coppery tone. If that's dye and not just bleach you used you should use a color remover first.

Yeah I figured I would need to get rid of the copper from the bottom what level would I need to get to to achieve the dark grey? I think I will need to use a color remover as it was done by a hairdresser and I was just topping the colour up with a mix of Adobe dyes. I can not find a dark grey anywhere so not sure if I am going to have to mix to achieve my desired colour

Lunar Tides has a dark grey that I've been meaning to try called Slate Grey. They've gotten mixed reviews, but I've personally had good luck with their colors. I think your base is a little dark and a bit too orange toward the roots to get a grey that doesn't look green or brown in different lighting, but I definitely don't think you'll have to go full "inside of a banana peel" yellow to get what you're looking for. I'd definitely go with the color remover first and reassess what you're working with after that, don't bleach if you don't have to.

You don't need to be all the way to a level 10 blonde for a dark grey, but you do want no orange tones, because they come through and turn the grey brown. You'd want to be a level 8 yellow blonde or lighter.
