Questions about 2 adore bluesPosted 4 days, 5 hours ago
@vivienne I got aquamarine on your suggestion. I wanted to know how dilution affects the color (ie mint green like atomic turquoise). Is it hard to remove, straight or diluted? I agree it’s one of if not the best of the current turquoise but I’d like to dilute down to a truE to shade fade. Not green, just turquoise jr.
Then if anyone’s used adore baby blue. Same questions as above, plus a few more. What’s the base of this, green or purple? I can’t tell. And of course this will become more apparent when force faded. I assume I’d be diluting to get baby blue: to me that evokes light powder blue and this looks more like bright saturated sky blue. Longevity, neat or diluted?

I believe it dilutes to a true lighter version of itself and I think the fade would also be relatively true when done over a nice base like yours. It' might go minty at the very end, though, but it's actually one of the cleaner fading turquoises I like. I don't know much about Baby Blue, though.

Thanks @vivienne! Not a lot of info on baby blue. I scoped out photos on here on the product gallery - only a few - but @Jude’s description said not too purple not too green.... sounds like the perfect balanced mid blue without dilution and perfect for a pure true pale blue pastel! My favorite pastel blue is from diluted rockabilly, and just by color swatching the baby blue looks prettier. Can’t wait to try this one.
Are either of those colors, specifically the aquamarine since you’ve worked with it, notoriously ‘sticky’? How about adore dyes in general?

@vivienne one more opinion please!! You saw I’ve been toning to an electric silver with (very violet) blue velvet. Since baby blue has neither green nor violet undertones, would a toner made from that be different t? I always thought that no matter blue the toner a violet is needed in there. What tones result in super diluted TRUE blue?

Adore is generally not that sticky, in my experience, but my hair is almost always minty green underneath everything, so it's hard to tell if Aquamarine was ever the culprit on its own. Adore has usually faded fairly consistently for me, except the one of the darker purples/burgundies which went green for me, but it was a pretty long time ago, so I can't remember the exact shade. My memory is that is can actually fade down better than something like Punky Turquoise, where I'm usually committing to having some staining.
As for toning, my experience is that a plain blue that's totally blue over platinum blonde as a toner will go just kind of a steely blue. If it's got some purple, it'll be a bit more silvery, but it can vary between a slight metallic sheen versus a flatter grey. I've gotten flat grey with just blue as well, but I think that's because my base had a little more pink/red staining so it was ever so slightly peachy.. I think if you make it really, really, dilute you could get a hint of green with just the blue.
