Hi all
I bleached my hair for the first time by myself (I know I know but it’s lockdown so decided to try and go a crazy colour).
I have 3B hair, did a test strand and it came out a golden yellow with 30v left on for 45 minutes. As my hair is naturally very dark I was expecting to have to do another bleaching session to get to the pale yellow I needed to dye my hair the pink shade I want. The second bleaching session I was going to do a 20v however wait a week before doing this and do some overnight hair treatments as well to help with the condition of the hair.
Anyway, so I did the first dye and it’s lifted to a golden yellow orange tone - which is what I was expecting. However as I was doing it myself I missed off quite a lot at the back (basically my back roots). There are parts at the front I’ve missed however I think that after the 20v it should be sorted as they’re tiny. Would the best way forward be to go back and spot bleach those parts with the 30v or should I wait until I do the 20v and start with those sections before doing the rest of the hair? I want to make sure I do the right thing to make sure u don’t overprocess the hair!
Hair at the moment feels fine (considering it’s been bleached). The 30v I have I am using with a bond protector and I will be using a bond protector with the 20v as well.
Also, has anyone got any tips on the best way to ensure that the back roots get done? My hairs quite thick and I think I just didn’t get enough on there when I went back to do the roots.
Thanks!

Hi, I see basically two ways to do the back : 1) get a generous helping hand who is willing to learn, saturate all the strands, or 2) get a second mirror so you can see what you are doing. you would need to spot-bleach before going back an re-bleaching with 20 vol. Take thin slices, saturate each one very well, and place them in foils for best incubation. Do the roots last as they always lift faster and further. Last option is wait until you can get to a hairdresser, as you may take unnecessary risk of damaging the hair with little good result. a good hairdresser would fix this for you. Good luck!

I'd agree with the recommendation to spot bleach the back with 30 vol before going in with 20 volume everywhere. I don't think 20 volume will be enough to lift hair that dark, so you'll need to target those darkest areas separately.

Thanks both, I’ve gone back and spot bleached it. Have managed to get rid of the main parts but there are little bits that have been missed but I can live with that. There is also slight hot roots but I don’t think they’re awful.
Another question (sorry), was debating between a 20v bleach wash or an all over 20v bleach. This won’t be until the 7th at least I don’t think. Which do you think would be best? Have attached an image of my current hair now (just blurted my face ?) I was going to tone my hair in a couple of days - an anti orange one with no lift to help with the orangeness.
Thanks both again

I think you'll need a full bleach, but a strand test will tell you for sure. You will probably also need to leave it in longer, as warm tones tend to lift much more slowly. I'd skip the toner. It's not really going to help more than the bleach at the moment.

Thanks Vivienne :)
I’ll be doing a strand test for sure with the 20v. And leaving it a few weeks so my hair has a chance to chill. And was going to do some overnight treatment on it as well.
Fingers crossed the 2nd lot will help!

I also had a problem with back roots because my hair began to fall out in some places.
