Help with going red ?by Ceri123Posted 7 months, 4 weeks ago
Hi, this is my first post on here and I’m after some advice for going red ? I have been many colours in the past but the last 3 years just been blonde, brown and copper! I normally get my hair done by my hairdresser which my roots need colouring due to grey hair ? and also get highlights so my hair is currently a medium brown roots with dark copper and blonde highlights ? I’ve asked her about going red before and she said she would need to bleech my roots every 4 weeks and redo the red! I can’t afford £60 very 4 weeks so looking into doing it myself! My problem is that I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant so scared I won’t have the time for upkeep if it fades quickly also I’m a postie so get caught in the rain a lot ??♀️ Would I be getting a lot of colour running etc? Also what about the roots? My natural hair is medium brown with a lot of grey

Do you mean this Fushia red? pretty indeed! You do need to go first to very light overall blonde. One of my daughters keeps an ultralight blonde and does direct colors over it, so she regularly fades back to blonde. I do her upkeep. I would recommend you do the overall blonde with a hairdresser you really trust. It is possible to to do roots yourself, but not easy, there are a few good tutorials on youtube, and I would - from my personal experience - advise having a standing mirror in the back, so avoid overlapping too much on the previously lightened hair. I use Blondme bleach with a mixture of 7 and 20 volume developper.
Get all the information on the direct dyes, some stain the hair more than others, or can also stain clothes etc. There are many on this site, and I am sure you can get lots of valuable information from others here. My daughter uses a professional brand Eugene Perma, Blush Flashy Mix for her "crazy colors" (mostly violet tones obtained my mixing pink with lavender), the colors are nice and vibrant, and they fade out very nicely, with no bad surprises such as green hair after a violet.

Honestly, if you didn't need it super bright then you could easily get a very pretty red over that with no bleach - my natural colour is much darker and I managed to get a gorgeous scarlet with Manic Panic Vampire Red :-)

Thank you, How did you find it lasting? How often did you do it and what we’re the coverage on your roots once they needed doing?
