Fading purple hair?by asvpninPosted 1 year, 2 months ago
Hi! I want to figure out the best way to fade my purple hair. i have naturally dark brown hair and bleached it with 20 vol developer, and it became a coopery-orange color. (it's been bleached, permed, dyed black, etc, all in the past so i'm surprised 20 vol even bleached it) i put pravana violet over it and it actually showed up pretty well, even though my base color wasn't a bright blonde. i've had this color for about 3 months, and i wash my hair 2-3 times a week- and it's still super vibrant, especially at the ends. it's a pretty dark purple towards the ends and way brighter towards my roots (sort of a reverse ombre) im actually not sure why it turned out this way bc i bleached it quite evenly, and the dye took SUPER dark towards my ends (im guessing its just because of damage and over processing) anyways, it hasn't faded much, if anything at all, in my opinion it just looks "dull" but my whole hair is still COMPLETELY purple, no signs of blonde/brown peeking through.
normally, i wouldn't mind, but i'm tired of the purple and wanna go blonde/light for the summer. i have NO idea how to fade the purple. i've done the vitamin c + dandruff shampoo treatment on my hair before (on permanent dye actually) and it worked OK, and i know it's actually supposed to work better on semi-perm dyes, but i just feel like theres SO much dye in my hair and idk if it's gonna cut it. i also heard that bleaching purple hair will just turn it green :( which i don't want to happen either.
i plan on going to a salon to get it bleached to achieve blonde/even a light brown.(point is i just don't want the purple anymore!) but i'm not sure if i should do an at home treatment like vit c/dandruff shampoo first to fade it (and if so, how many times would i do it until i'm ok to go to the salon), or if there's another solution! pleaseee let me know! i've attached pics of the color, also in some lighting it looks violet/cool/dark purple and in other lightings it looks fuschia/warm pinky purple.
i just wanna know the best way to get rid of the purple or at least fade it as much as possible to get it prepared to go lighter. :)

From a dark hair color before dying not sure can offer ideas. Purple is best placed on hair that is very light blonde. Because yellow and purple are opposite each other on the color wheel. Any yellow in the hair would interfere with the purple dye trying to stain the hair. Glad to hear you received good results.
Brighter by the roots because the hair was lighter by the roots. Heat from the scalp speeds up the bleach process and also makes the bleaching process more effective. This is because heat is a catalyst in chemical reactions. So the area by the roots would lighten faster.
Bleaching purple hair I have experienced the change to blue, to pink, and to orange. Purple dye is either red based or blue based because red and blue make purple. Red based purples when bleached will turn pink, then light pink, then lighter pink, then a little lighter pink, then a little lighter pink again. Blue based purples when bleached will turn blue, then green, then yellow. I was surprised when the hair turned orange after bleaching purple, and do not remember the brand.
Suggest fade the hair as much as possible but do not do anything to the hair three days before going to a salon. The three days is for natural oils to rebuild into the hair. These natural hair oils protect the hair when the hair is bleached.
These are my suggestions and opinion.

I would use dandruff shampoo. Wash two times per shower, and condition well after. I would do that for 2 weeks to give it a proper go at fading, and I think it's a good idea to not do anything for 3 days before going to the salon as well.

i don't know why my pics didn't attach to original post but here they are! the color literally changes in all types of lighting lol it really has a mind of its own, but hopefully this gives you a better idea of the color :) also i just washed my hair with dandruff shampoo alone just to try it out, and soo much dye was rinsing out but my hair still looks the same LOL.it's so stubborn :(
