Hi, my hair is currently mid to pastel pink (Directions Carnation pink). I want to go orange (like Directions Mandarin orange), and I’m just wondering if I will need to bleach my hair to do this or will the orange cover the pink?
My hair doesn’t fade past a pastel pink. I have left my hair eight month without dying it before, and it just doesn’t fade to yellow. It turns pastel with peachy undertones. (I’ve tried dandruff shampoos, washing with hot water, etc... still doesn’t fade further).
I don’t bleach my whole head to get the pink since it doesn’t fade, I only ever need to do my roots, and then touch up with more pink. When I bleach my roots, I use a 20vol, and my hair turns a yellow blonde which is light enough for the pink I want.
What are my options? If I add a touch of yellow dye to the orange dye would that help stopping it from turning red?
If you don’t think orange will cover it, would a bleach bath be better than full bleach? (I’ve never done a bleach bath bath before, and I was just looking it up, does the shampoo really lower the strength of the bleach?)
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi! Just general advice based on color theory from me. Orange will most likely cover faded pink well and look good. The color will get a pink/red orange undertone though, so adding a bit of yellow or using more yellowish orange than the outcome you want is probably a good idea. I would not use bleach, as orange is not too difficult color for you to achieve, it is always easier to add yellow to hair than get it out :)

In my humble opinion a medium orange will cover over a pastel pink pretty well. Might be a trace of salmon though in my opinion. Suggest a strand test on a very small section of hair.

Hi, thank for your response!
I was thinking of using Directions Mandarin, and adding a bit of Directions Bright Daffodil. But I’ve been eyeing Arctic Fox Sunset Orange. I think that one is the exact colour I want.
I’m going to try to fade it (if it will) just a touch more with some antidandruff shampoo (I’ve seen adding Baking Soda can also work?) first, then buy the dye and do some strand tests! :)

Hi, thanks!
I’m thinking of using either Directions Mandarin, or Arctic Fox Sunset Orange, and adding a touch of Directions Bright Daffodil.
Do you think those orange’s will work?
My pink has a peachy tone to it when it fades. :)

Suggest use the Directions Mandarin with a touch of Directions Bright Daffodil as indicated above. Adding a touch of Bright Daffodil could help the light pink become more orange.
Strongly suggest a strand test on a very small section of hair with the dye mixture.
I have used Arctic Fox Orange twice with good results both times. However, I do not remember the name of the dye by the brand Arctic Fox. Arctic Fox has two orange dyes with one bright orange and one light orange.
This is my opinion and suggestions.
