Blonde/Platuim hair advice and help PleaseeePosted 1 year, 9 months ago
Is there any way to make my hair lighter and brighter without bleach?
My friend is training to become a hair dresser/colourist and we just recently bleached and dyed my hair. My light brown hair lifted easily to about a level 9ish pale yellow. We knew my hair wasent light enough to tone to a platinum/white colour so we tone it down using a level 8 light ash colour. The result came out okay... (I’ve inserted pictures). Other people like my hair but I’m a fan on clean cool blonde hair and seeing yellow and brassy tones makes me annoyed. I have used a few purple toners and permanent toners that you mix with developer but my hair just turns more ashy beige and still yellow.IS there any way to get my hair more lighter and whiter without using bleach?
Please keep in mind I am living in Australia and we have limited hair colouring products here, thanks!

You'll need to go a bit lighter. To me it looks like it was lightened to about a level 7/8, rather than 9. It should take too much more to get it light enough, but if you want that very light platinum blonde, you really need to lighten it to a solid level 9; basically creamy blonde.
Lay off the toning shampoos for a week or so to let them wash out and then bleach it 1 or 2 levels lighter and try toning again. There shouldn't be any brassiness visible. If you see yellow or gold after bleaching then you're still not light enough and toning it will just make it look darker.
The only way to lighten hair is to bleach it. I mean, there are high lift blonde dyes, but they're essentially bleaching your hair. Regular bleach will give the most predictable results.
