What will happen...by RedRhapsodyPosted 2 years ago
I’m trying to get my hair purple for a festival. Any shade of purple will do my issue is I put a semi thats supposed to wash out in 30 days and it literally just made my hair slightly darker and my fried dead ends were tinged a slight greenish blue. I want to attempt a permanent color but don’t have time for salon/ordering color. If I put the got2b box over it, what do you think will happen? My hair is a suuuper faded ginger. I’ve been dying it red for many years.

Permanent purples are generally more of a dark reddish burgundy shade. I think it would cover, but it wouldn't be super bright, especially over the darker orange bits. If your ends are very damaged, I wouldn't recommend it, as you'll be doing more damage to them.
What was the first semi purple you used? If it was a lighter/pastel shade, it may not have been pigmented enough to show up on your hair. I think you could get a darker pink-toned shade to show over the blonde bits and go more of a wine-y burgundy over the orange. I like Punky Plum, but there are loads of great options. What brands do you have the best access to?

Thanks for your reply. The first shade I used was splat Midnight Violet. I currently have access to only drugstore brands in my timeframe. I also have zero knowledge/experience in mixing colors lol. I’m just going to keep it safe I think and throw a box of red over it for now and just schedule an appt in a month to try to go purple.

if you can get drugstore purple then try lusty lavender the midnight ones are a little less good but if you put a red box dye then you have to remove that completely before you go purple, if you have a hot topic or a sallys arctic fox purple rain is a great option

Metallics are very hard to remove once on. Please find another semi-permanent color like Arctic Fox, Sparks, Splat, Beyond the Zone, Punky Color, Directions, Special Effects, Urban Shock, Manic Panic, Star Gazer, etc. This is my suggestion.
