Hair Color NEVER sticks to bleached hairPosted 1 year, 9 months ago
Not sure why this is happening to me I’m so frustrated! I have brown hair that I slowly bleached over a few months to a pretty pale blonde. I wouldn’t say it’s white blonde but it’s pretty freaking light. I bleached it so I could add lots of fun colors and I’ve spent so much $ on pravana, lime crime, Arctic Fox colors just to have it not stick. I have NO IDEA why this happens. I’ve bleached my hair in the past and dyed it with some cheap Sally’s dye and it worked just fine. This time around I used really good bleach and developer to have it healthy so not sure what’s happening. I used arctic fox porange and electric paradise to create a flamingo pink color. I bleached my roots a few days ago and it only stuck to those fresh bleached parts! And some of those parts were even slightly pale yellow (I didn’t tone) which is so confusing because the rest of my hair is pretty pale white blonde. Any ideas as to what’s going on? I follow all the instructions, on dry just shampoo hair and leave it on for hours!! I don’t want to waste any more money and just end up disappointed ?

It looks darker on the mid-lengths, particularly a few strands. Had you used a toner recently? In the first picture, there's a strand towards the back that looks bluish. I'm going to say it's one of three things:
- Existing colour in the mid-lengths and ends; either from toning or an old colour (maybe a purple that bleached out to green?)
- Hair wasn't bleached light enough in those areas
- Build-up on the hair that's preventing the dye from being absorbed.
I think the last option is the least likely, but it can't hurt to switch out any waxy conditioners and use a clarifying shampoo for a few washes before dyeing.
If you have access to a UV light, look at your hair for dark spots. It's a great way to show uneven bleaching.

one possability the two colors you used, porange and electric paradise are pretty light shades, so your hair may not be light enough for them, if you don't want to go lighter look at there full pigment orange and the virgin pink shade if you want to use arctic fox its better to dilute those down a little then start with somthing on that pastel side

Thank you! I was honestly stumped! I haven’t toned my entire hair since I bleached it months ago. Is this a regular thing I need to be doing? I usually only tone my newly bleached roots. I have been using the pravana purple mask every once and a while and I used it the day before. But my hair looks a little yellow in that photo sorry I didn’t have any better more recent shots I think since I used the mask it was a little lighter. But I agree there are some darker strands and some lighter strands that probably got over toned and are purple. The only color I’ve used recently is a limecrime strawberry jam color but I did a bleach wash over it a few months ago to get the remaining color out. I hate going to a salon but maybe my hair is just too patchy?

Oh I had no idea these were lighter colors. I looked up swatches and they looked crazy bright! So I even bought the clear base that tones its down. But my roots are neon colored so maybe my hair isn’t just light enough. :(
