I can't believe I'm finally posting after lurking for years. Hi! I recently had a plan for my hair, but it didn't quite go right. My hair is much, much shorter than I wanted and the color scheme won't fit nicely until it's longer. I bleached my virgin hair (turned orangey, level 7ish) and I think I used a toner that was meant for lighter hair (wella t18). I thought I'd dye the roots Manic Panic's After Midnight blue and fade it into whitish tips, but it's much too dark now and I don't want to bleach my hair again for a month or two.
Would anyone have suggestions on which color I could dye over my current mess that wouldn't turn muddy? I appreciate it so, so much!
Suggest stick with your plan and do not give up. Bleach the hair again in four weeks giving the hair a rest. If another color is added now then will be more work to remove the color placed upon the hair as well as make the hair lighter for your goal.
If dying the roots a dark blue unlikely will have white tips even if cover over the tips with conditioner or shampoo. A dark color will always affect a lighter color, simply because the darker color has more pigmentation. I can vision the ends turning a light blue.
Toners will not change the hair color. Toners will help to mask or hide unwanted yellows in very very light beige blonde hair.
These are my suggestions.
you need to get rid of all orange tones for a blue shade, or it will go brown, also after midnight fades very green so I would maybe consider lightening further to a yellow blonde and then using a purple based blue its going to be a lot more forgiving
to dye over what you have now you will have to go warm shades, reds, orange, some pinks ) they will look more red) avoid most purple and blues they will go brown
