Hey there! It’s my very first time using any sort of forum of any kind, so please bear with me :) I’ve been dying my hair a vivid color purple for over 6 months now, and this next time will be only the 3rd time doing a touch up dye wheee I get my roots to a purple color. The first time I tried it, I didn’t bleach roots (my hair is a medium/dark brown) and I just put the purple dye on. It sucksd. So last time I bleached my roots and the part that was bleached came out the most gorgeous, bright color and it hardly faded at all with use of my OverTone conditioner stuff. I’m ibsessed with that stuff!! Everything I didn’t bleach though was less vivid and faded a lot to an almost grey/purple color. So my question is, when I do my roots this time should I bleach my whole head to get that vivid purple color? Or is there another way to achieve what I’m going for... I’ll add pics soon, I’m totally showering before I add those though! HA!! I’m using Pravana chromasilk vivids for dye, haven’t ordered the bleach yet but I’m getting pravana pure light power lightener. I have purple shampoo and conditioner for brassy tones if needed, and I’m thinking I should get something like joico kpak to heal my hair? Seems like a good idea after reading a lot of posts. All advice is GREATLY appreciated, it’s got to look phenomenal this time. I came pretty darn close last time so this time it’s gonna look fab!! With y’all advising me, I know it’ll be perfect!!!!!!
It sounds like the roots went well, but what colour were the midlengths-ends before you started dyeing your hair purple? I'm guessing that the area that ended up less vivid wasn't bleached as light as the roots. If that's the case, then bleach only the parts that are darker. If you bleach over everything then the roots area will be over processed.
However, fade the purple out as much as possible before you try bleaching it. Many purples will go green if you bleach them and although that will be easily covered with a fresh application of dye, it might look a bit bluer than you expected which can lead to uneven colour.

I can’t figure out how to add my pic to this reply but I did upload a picture of my current hair to my profile...can you see it? So it’s like this...roots are natural, mid section is with bleach and then color afterwards and the ends are the yuck gray color and I didn’t use bleach on the ends section. Just tne dye and Overtone was used on my whole head to keep the color bright. I haven’t used it for weeks though and I’m very happy with how the mid section is holding it’s color! So I’m going to bleach my roots this time, but what about the rest of my hair? Just leave it and then do an all over purple dye? Will it be 3 different colors? Lol I don’t want that. This is as faded as the purple is gonna get though, I’ve waited so long!!
