I made a mess of my hair and need help. I normally have dark brown hair with little warm tones. I wanted a balayage and got none of that, it ended up being mostly warm highlights with some more ashier-areas. Basically two toned. Hated it and decided to dye my hair with a dark blonde box dye (except for my darker roots) so I can seep the lightness but darken it overall. That faded, but some of the highlights underneath still reached high up to my roots and so i went to a hairdresser and she coloured my roots to a "natural" color (which I think is way too red) and the rest of my color she just toned darker. Its definitely coming back and now I have a mess. I will post a photo.
I actually dont hate it, but think its way too yellow and brassy. Any ideas on how to get rid of alot of the warmth, but not be incredibly blonde? Ive read about toners but i dont want them to take all the red and leave me with white/blonde hair. That will look terrible.
what about a purple shampoo? or something like aveedas blue malva?
unfortunately i find the purple shampoos take out a bit of the reddish tones and leave it more yellow each time. it does not remove yellow.
You're not light enough to become very light blonde. You could use blue toners (No Orange of Fanola, or No Yellow of Schwarzkopf), or use normal toners with low volume peroxide (max 10 volume), but of the level of your hair, for example Wella colour touch 8.81. However, toners don't hold very long. Probably the best is a toner every 4 weeks and blue mask or shampoo in between. Dialight 9.11 is also very ashy, for having tried it, but personally I prefer color touch. Good luck!
