I have dark black asian hair that I know takes a while to bleach. I want to dye my hair a dark blue (like the one I uploaded). I have a jar of manic panic after midnight blue that I'm gonna use. How light do I need to bleach my hair? Should I use 40 or 30 developer? I did a botch bleach job a few years back that really killed my curly hair. What are your thoughts on coconut oil in the hair while I bleach?
you need to get the hair to a yellow blonde the lighter the better and keep in mind that the more yellow that is in the hair the more after midnight will fade to green, so maybe add a little purple in it to combat that
I have very dark brown hair which I just dyed a dark blue like that. It wasn't all virgin, and I had blue faded green underneath, but I bleached with Blond Brilliance 35 and added Olaplex (so effectively 25 vol). You can see in my photo timeline the process. I don't know how it's gonna fade yet, but to counteract the potential for green (considering what is underneath... stay away from Ion Tanzanite, btw) I did take the advice here and added some violet. I used Adore Indigo Blue plus a little African Violet. No green and I'm super happy. I also have thick, coarse curly hair and fried it years ago using 40 vol over and over, waiting for banana peel and getting marshmallow instead. DEFINITELY do the coconut oil. Good luck!!
