Purple Shampoo on Opal pastel highlightsby ladyyingsPosted 1 year, 11 months ago
I had pastel colors added to my highlights couple weeks ago and was wondering if I use my purple shampoo will it affect the pastel coloring?I have asked several hair stylists and none could give me a clear answer.

Purple shampoo is not nearly as strong a deposit of color as is an semi-permanent dye. Purple shampoo is used to help hide or mask unwanted yellow tones because purple and yellow are opposite each other on the color wheel. Since the color is a semi-permanent they are designed to fade over time after each hair wash. Hair will fade more if using a clarifying shampoo then a less harsh shampoo. In my humble opinion using a purple based shampoo would have very minimal to insignificant impact. Strongly suggest performing a strand test by using a purple based shampoo on a very small section of the hair to determine ahead of time any results. Strand tests are very helpful in my opinion to determine the affect of any product on the hair because they are done on a very small section of hair. Best of luck.
These are my opinions and suggestions.

I'd agree that the impact should be minimal as you're not leaving it on very long, but pastels do tend to fade out quickly with any shampoo, so I would still expect that they'll need fairly regular re-touching if you want to keep it.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I got my hair colored 3wks ago and the pastels are still looking vibrant but my blond is starting to get a bit yellow/brassy so I was hoping using my purple shampoo would help but I don't want it to fade the pastels. I'll try a strand test first and see how that goes.
