Hello everybody! In the past I dyed my hair with splat hair color in middle school. Now I’m in high school and would like to dye my hair red again. I’ve been spending hours researching the right dye and color and the best I’ve found is Rock N Roll Red by Manic Panic. Can anybody who has tried this before give me some insight? I’ve been searching for ages for a review of this color specifically and I’m out of luck. I’ve heard many people have problems with Rockabilly Blue being a messy disaster, so I’m wondering since this red is as dark as that blue, does anybody know if this dye would have an awful staining problem compared to this Rockabilly Blue? Just to mention, I am not using bleach because my hair is light enough, and I know that it will stain a little of course, and you’ve gotta rinse till it’s clear, make sure the color locks to your hair, wear black for a week, and etc. I just really don’t want staining as awful as I’ve heard with Rockabilly Blue. But anybody with personal experience would be severely appreciated, as I’m planning this dye job next weekend. Thank you!
I have used both, and I find Rockabilly to be worse for staining than Rock N Roll, though I did use it diluted in conditioner and it was not really as bad as the reviews I had seen. Now, Manic Panic does seem to have done some slight formula tweaks since I've used both colours, so I can't say 100% that it's not going to stain badly. However, I have recently tried a couple of shade that seem to be more pigmented than they were historically (Atomic Turquoise, Ultra Violet), and the increased pigment doesn't seem to have made them horrible for staining. If I had to guess, I think they just replaced some shades with the equivalent shade in their old Amplified line.
Now, if your hair has never been bleached before, you are probably going to get more run-off as it's less porous than bleached hair. I think you'll still be okay, as red is relatively good at staining unbleached hair. You probably won't be able to get the water to run totally clear after you dye, but just try to get it to a point where your hair feels clean, as in its no longer got the super smooth texture as if you've used too much conditioner. It will probably also help to leave the dye in a bit longer than the instructions say, at least a couple of hours, to give it more time to absorb.
Good luck and feel free to add photos to your timeline!
Strongly suggest washing the hair after rinsing out as much of the dye as possible. Lightly washing helps to remove dye left behind after rinsing. I have never been able to rinse the hair till the water is clear. This is my suggestion and opinion.
i have rock n roll, its a pretty warm orange based red, at least in the brand new tub i have, it really bled and stained alot last time I used it, I ended up just switching out with special effects nucluer red its a bit brighter but didn't bleed as much
Yeah, I've never ever been able to rinse my hair until the water was clear. I think that's a cruel prank hair dye manufacturers put on the packaging.
When I was using the Manic Panic (Amplified) red dyes, I tried everything under the sun to stop it from fading, staining, and bleeding. (After I ruined a hotel pillow case and accidentally "dyed" my fiance's beard pink... Whoops!) A couple things that seemed to work well for me were vinegar rinses right after dying and something called Ion After-Color sealer that I got at Sally's. I never really tried the Special Effects colors, but I keep hearing they don't bleed as much. Oh, and I always had to make sure my hair didn't stay wet, which meant blow drying every time I washed my hair. :/
