Salon didn't give me what I want at all! Asked for pastel blue, first they made id a dark blue green, when I complained, they made it grey! Can I fix it at home?by joyh97Posted 2 years, 2 months ago
Ok so after years of dying my hair myself, I decided that because the shade I wanted to achieve was a light pastel blue that would require serious bleaching, I should finally get my hair done professionally (my hair is naturally almost black). I went to a salon, and they were lovely, told me they could do the shade no problem- and my hair turned out a vibrant blue on the roots with patches of green, yellow, and brown. Absolutely NOT what I asked for. So I went back in the next day and a more senior stylist offered to fix it for free. So they stripped the colour, lightened it AGAIN, and put in more colour. Now it's silver/grey with a slight blue tint, and STILL yellow patches. They're all really lovely and spent around 10 hours trying to get my hair right for me so I don't want to ask for a refund, but can I fix it at home? The second colour is sort of closer to what I wanted because it is actually quite pale, but I hate the patchiness and it definitely isn't a pastel blue, more of a silver with a mint green/yellow tone.
I'm going to put on some purple shampoo and let it sit for 30 minutes to try and get rid of the yellow patches, and then I was thinking of applying Manic Panic's rockabilly blue mixed with their pasteliser... But will this turn out ok, or is my hair too dark now to achieve any kind of pastel shade? I defintiely can't bleach it again after 2 whole lightening processed in 24 hours, but I really dont think the current colour looks very nice at all :( Picture 1 is what I asked for, 2 is the first colour they gave me (taken in very bright light, it was darker than it looks in the photo), and 3 is what I have now. Please help!!

Update: The purple shampoo didn't help at all. If anything my hair has more yellow/pale brown tones because I guess the shampoo stripped out some of the steel blueish purple toner they applied. My hair now looks like a bad attempt at going grey-blonde.(See timeline https://www.haircrazy.com/timelines/joyh97/)
This was my first ever trip to a salon, and I paid £90 (about $120) for them to make my hair like this. ;_; If I ever go to a salon for colour again I'm just going to ask them to get my hair as close to white as possible so I can do the colour myself at home...
Would a colour like adore periwinkle turn out ok? I'm thinking the purple shades might tone out the yellow in my hair to leave me with a pastel blue shade... Or should I just wait a month and bleach again? If so is there a way I can temporarily improve the colour in the meantime? Like with a washout pastel shade that I could apply after washing? Or is my hair too dark? I'm so lost!

i would strand test it, also look at adore platium its actually baby blue and when I've used it it turns my hair light blue, but the periwinkle might be a better idea to avoid grey

I second periwinkle. It will have a slight neutralising effect on the yellow and a slightly more purple tone will work better. I'd avoid bluer blues because if there's yellow there it can contribute to the greenness.
Your firsts step should be to wash out as much of the grey/violet as possible and then reassess. Use head & shoulders for a couple of weeks and it should be all gone.
It's hard to tell what's causing the colour from the pic you posted. If you can get all the toners out then we'll have a better idea of what to do next. You might have to spot bleach any problem areas in order to fix it, but it will be easier to tell when your hair has less colour in it.
