Need a sub for blue velvet in the next two weeks!

Need a sub for blue velvet in the next two weeks!

This is my hair indoors and out I'm going to be fading it a bit and I need a dark blue or teal ( basically comic book blue that looks black) for a con in two weeks with blue velvet out of stock what do I turn to? For blue I have electric blue from special effects and punky turquoise but I need something darker what is like blue velvet but won't stay forever since I want to go teal after

Can you get Adore Blue Black or Royal Navy? Those are the ones that directly come to mind that fade out relatively easily.

You have a lot of purple now, so you might be able to get away with just a dark green over what you have.

thanks, I have adore royal navy and strand tested but its so flat and dull the adore colors don't have that plastic shine i love from something like blue velvet, I have alpine green from punky so i can strand test that too, i do plan on fading a bit more the purple but I was thinking the depth of the purple might help to get a darker blue

I was going to suggest Royal Navy too, but I know what you mean about the shine. It's more monotonal vs the crazy bright highlights you get in Blue Velvet. That said, your current colour is going to contribute a lot to it and sometimes layering colours can give you a nicer colour depth.

I haven't done this myself but maybe Pravana Black Additive with Pravana Blue or similar might give you that deeply saturated look.

thanks @Jude, I was thinking of strand testing a mix of electric blue special effects and punky turquoise with a drop of royal navy and seeing what I get, electric blue is dark anyway and over a faded purple base i think it might be dark enough and I like the idea of it fading to a brighter blue i can slap green on top of in a month or two to get the teal i really want

I'd say mix Pravana Blue with a blue-black or navy dye. I mixed it with some really old Punky Blue Black last year & got a very prismatic deep inky blue.

thank you! I might try a deep blue with a dab of black, pravanna dyes seem to take really flat and blah on my hair, i've tried violet and blue and gave the remainder of the tubes away because they just don't work for me, I was also looking at sparks nautical navy, though sparks is pretty similar to pravanna

I’ve been waiting on Blue Velvet too! I just ordered sparks Electric Blue and Nautical Navy to console myself in the meantime. Will be my first time with that brand so I’m excited to see how it goes. The reviews were promising. I still really want to try out Blue Velvet when it’s in stock again.

You don't think they'll eliminate blue velvet do you? I scored a couple damaged bottles to keep on hand, but it occurred to me if they've let it go like this would they bring it back. I hope so bc blue velvet is something else. Kind of a vixen to remove tho, not uncommon w sfx.

Store says 2 weeks ETA on more stock (with their green I was looking at too, of course). So, I’m pretty sure they’ve got more on the way! When I was looking around for info about it a month or so ago, when I couldn’t find it online ANYWHERE and started panicking that I’d finally found the perfect blue only for it to be discontinued... I got the sense that this kind of thing happens a lot with Special Effects. So they probably just make a limited amount at a time and only so often. I would hope that they’d make an actual statement if they were discontinuing any of their colors.

Blue velvet is basically a purplish blue. So mix about one third purple to two thirds blue. or get some After Midnight Blue. Manic Panic has a very dark blue called Shocking Blue. Shocking Blue can stain sinks and tubs and is strong. These are my suggestions. Best of luck.

@Folk_Laur @Endarei Special Effects do not have any Blue Velvet stock at the moment which is causing a bit of a worldwide drought rage Don't ask me why this keeps happening frowning They are also out of Blue Haired Freak, Burgundy Wine, Candy Apple Red, Devlish, Fish Bowl, Iguana Green, and Mixer/Toner. I don't expect to have them for a couple of months. Everything else is due soon.

I don't think they will get rid of any of the colours. They've never added or removed a colour from the range in the 16 years we've been stocking their product. It just seems to be some kind of ongoing supply problem; they haven't had everything in stock at once for a few years.

one more idea, after a shampoo soak my hair is a bit lighter sort of a deep lavender do you think that special effects electric would go dark over that base? i have it and it looks really really dark in the tube, I also have rockabilly blue but avoid that one because it bleeds

Electric Blue is actually pretty dark, so I think it could work. It bleeds a bit for me, but it’s not as bad as Rockabilly.

@Dizzinea I also think electric blue would cover that fine. It's a pretty strong color. @Jude I'm relieved to hear they haven't discontinued any colors. It makes me much less concerned considering blue velvet is one of my favs.

http://i64.tinypic.com/szgxo8.jpgh This is what I’ve faded too, I am thinking electric blue with a dab of Punky turquoise so I don’t go purple
