Advice needed, which dye for light blue?by AliceTPosted 3 years, 10 months ago
As there are people here who have much more experience with different blue dyes than I do, I would love to hear your thoughts and advice on which dye to use.
Right now my hair is silver/grey, no yellow tones, my base was pretty much white. I want to do a silver to blue ombre. What I’m looking for is a blue I can dilute to a light/pastel shade (or already a pastel shade), that is not an aqua or turquoise/teal colour, and doesn’t fade to those tones. I don’t mind it going a bit to the lilac side though, as those colours for me usually fade to silvery grey/blonde. Anything green toned is there to stay I’ve found, so I’d like to avoid that as much as possible.
Any thoughts on which colour to use? Below some examples of the kind of colours I mean. The last one is a picture of my hair colour right now. Please excuse the weird lighting, this one shows the colour best, and my hair looks terrible there, air dried, no conditioner, bleached to within an inch of it’s life, but still there

Adore Blue Black comes to mind if you don’t mind a more steely blue colour rather than something more saturated, like the second photo. Directions Neon Blue is also a great option, but it is a bit more on the violet side. I’m also thinking that Pravana Locked-In Blue has the closest tone to the ends on the second photo, but it’s a little harder to dilute evenly since the formula is supposed to be non-bleeding.

Thanks for the reply! Steely blue would definitely be ok, as long as I would be able to get enough of a difference between the blue and the grey/silver. In certain light my hair already has a blueish tint (I used Adore titanium, diluted). Most important is that the blue is not towards aqua or tuquoise. Towards violet/lilac is ok too.
