Can't Get My Hair To Bleach Lighter!Posted 1 year, 6 months ago
Hello all, I am in desperate need of help with my hair !! I have naturally very thick, dark brown hair and within the past two years have been experimenting more with coloring it. Due to my natural color, it is very difficult for any colors to even show, so I have wanted to bleach my hair for a while now, and I finally did it. I have used the Clairol BW 2 Bleach Powder and Salon Care 30 vol developer. I will give you a description of my color/ bleach process up until now. About two months ago (October 28th) I dyed my hair a dark purple (Splat Midnight Amethyst) and it started to wash out within a week, so I was ready for something different. Not even two weeks later (November 9th) my friend bleached my hair (using the products mentioned before) but avoided the roots and did not REALLY coat the hair with bleach. Before the bleach, we coated my hair in coconut oil made for hair. After washing the bleach out, it lightened my hair a tad amount and turned it a light to medium brown. We were confused because there were purple and pink spots throughout my hair, and we think this is leftover purple dye. The following day (November 10th) we bleached it again. I slept in my hair coated in the same coconut oil (about 15-16 hours it sat). Starting with the lower half of my hair and working out way up, including my roots. Because my hair is so thick (like seriously, the thickest hair I have ever felt- try to imagine the thickest hair you have encountered, but thicker) it took us a good hour and a half to get all of my hair thoroughly coated. After it was covered, I let it sit for about 20-30 minutes, but my scalp burned so bad I could not take it any longer. I washed it out and noticed a huge lift in my hair, but still majority of it being brown and there still being pink spots. My roots turned out almost platinum (a yellow platinum of course ) My bottom layers were still very brown, so we did them again (with a 40 vol developer as we had ran out of 30 vol) and let it sit for about half an hour, fearing that my hair would fall out! I washed it out and noticed no difference in the bottom. I decided that I did not want to bleach my hair any more for a while and do some damage control in the meantime. I noticed VERY little damage, my bangs just looked a little over processed but my ends and everything else were perfectly fine. The color remained a lightish brown with very light roots and spotting of orange/purple/pink throughout. During the past few weeks I have been deep conditioning my hair and doing oil treatments once a week, to heal and prevent any damage. This past Sunday (November 26th) I did a strip test with the same bleach powder and 40 vol developer on a lower section of my hair. I coated my hair in coconut oil right before I bleached it. I let it sit a full 50 minutes and rinsed it out with lukewarm water. NO DIFFERENCE!! I am so perplexed as to what is causing my hair to resist lifting any higher. I have spent hours looking as to what might be the problem, but no one's experience has quite been the same as mine. I did apply a small bit of toner to my roots after bleaching them (on the 10th), but it burned so I almost immediately washed it out. I am hoping someone can tell me what is wrong/ how to get my hair to lift! I am curious if it is the coconut oil interacting with the bleach (although I've read it shouldn't- unless I am using the wrong type of coconut oil) or if I need to remove all previous color from my hair. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
