So iv been dying my hair with directions and manic panic... i dont do it often as it doesnt look great on my brown hair and washs out super fast. So i have made a decision to bleach my hair... iv wanted to do this for a while now and have tried to look into what dye/bleach to use... is there any to avoid? Any you would suggest? Iv included a photo of my hair colour now.. its not got any dye so totally natural hair colour. And another question is what products would ylu suggest to use after the bleach to help my hair recover... as i said i have never done this before so would love some advice. Thank you x

Put some coconut oil in your hair at least a few hours , preferably overnight, before bleaching. It helps protect your hair. 20 Volume bleach is all you should need, don't use 40 volume! it's too much for most peoples hair. You hav'nt mentioned what colours you want to get but bleaching your hair all the way to level 10 lightness is'nt always necessary, unless you want pastel colours. Bleach the inch closest to your roots last, heat from your scalp causes bleach to work faster and you can end up with uneven hair, or 'hot roots'. If you can have someone help you it would be good, especially the back so you don't miss any spots. Their are lots of good conditioners out their, I like Hask brand, but it depends on where you live and what is available. I know others here swear by Shea Moisture. That's all I can think of at the moment, It's a bit early in the morning for me and I hav'nt had enough coffee:) their are some very knowledgeable members here who I'm sure will give you more good advice. But really all you need to know is written in articles on this site and older forum posts. It's good you want to do your homework first and learn before you jump in.

Thats great advise. I lot of box dyes dont say what volume they are. I know manic panic do a 30 but would have to check how i would get a 20.
Sorrtmy should have mentioned i want to go purple... not bright purple... i have purple haze and i might mix it with something...
I live in essex UK so will look up thoes brands and see if i can get them here.
Yes the coconut oil has been suggested a few times so will deff be doing that.
I want to make sure i understand what im doing rather than getting a blond box dye and hope it works.
Also i have read that to go purple i may not need to tone my hair to blond and the rusty colour would be enough to lick up the blond... is that true? Would i need my hair to be free of the brassy copper colour?
Also if the 20 volum doesnt lift the colour well enough... how long should i wait to re bleach?

I use ion sensative scalp developer cream which is amazing. I got it because it said sensative scalp but ill never look for another developer cream ever. For after I like all sorts of oils. I use vanilla silk right now after everytime I wash in the shower, and then a hot gro treatment usually a day before I shower. I also like Moroccan argon oil, avacado or olive or coconut oil.

If you want to go deep purple instead of bright purple a 20 vol developer is more than enough. Like blu123 said, put coconut oil in your hair so you get less demage. I suggest using a blue powder bleach as it helps with the yellow tones and the brassiness that you usually get. If you are going to do it on your own i suggest splitting your hair in four sections, and do one first, wait half an hour and then rinse it. Then do the second section, wait half an hour and so on. It's more time consuming but it will definetly help since you're doing it for the first time and you'll have a slower application. (The first time I bleached my hair I went ahead without sectioning it and when I was done and all my hair was saturated with bleach it was already 40 minutes that I had it in my hair so I had to wash it out immediately and the result was crazy uneven!) Good luck :)!
