base for silver hair with t18 abd 050Posted 3 years, 5 months ago
Hello, first time posting here but i've been reading the topics for quite a while now. I had blue green hair and managed to go to a platinum blonde so my hair is completely fried and I can't bleach it anymore. I'm planning on using a mix of the wella t18 toner and the 050 additive to achieve grey/silver hair but I am not sure if my base is light enough. My roots are a little bit darker and there are some yellow/dark parts so I was wondering if there is a darker grey hair dye that might work with my roots. I tried using t18 on my hair before and my ends turned into a lovely grey that faded into a white but my darker roots didnt really change.Since then they have been bleached one more time and are the color you see in the photos.

I would strongly recommend against using Color Charm if you hair damaged to the point of not bleaching again. It's pretty high in ammonia and these types of dyes wreak havoc with bleached hair.
If you do decide to go ahead then I think you'd get a good result colour wise on most of your hair but that darker band around ear-length isn't going to look as silvery and will likely go a sort of ash blonde. I do think that it will cause a lot of damage though.
You can achieve similar results with non-damaging dyes. I really like Crazy Color Graphite, Adore Titanium, Adore Platinum and Pravana Silver. Pravana Silver is the darkest of those colours mentioned and has the most blue tones. I'd expect a kind of gunmetal colour on the darker areas of your hair but the ends may look a little blue if you don't dilute it. If you were going for more of a pale silver Manic Panic Bad Boy Blue is a good option but you'll have less coverage on the dark areas.
Whatever you do, make sure you do a strand test. Toning uneven hair can sometimes accentuate the unevenness so it's a good idea to strand test and see what kind of outcome to expect.

Thank you , i will look those dyes up but I really want a violet based silver because if it is blue based my hair tends to fade to a minty color. I'll probably do a strand test with 10 vol wella toner and pray

Nirvel ArtX Grey is purple based and supposed to be a good darker grey. I just bought Makki Grey (same company) and it is purple based too, but I haven't used it on my whole head yet. I wouldn't recommend Wella either because of how damaging it is.
I have had your hair color before and made my own toner with silicone free conditioner mixed with a few drops of Manic Panic. My favorite to use is Ultra Violet, even though it's blue based I have never had any green fading (and I've used it over a darker base too). Purple Haze is pink based and works really well too, it'll just be a warmer more blonde-ish result. Like Jude said though, toning it will definitely show the uneven areas.

Hm, i might give the artx grey a try but i will dillute it a lot first(for my ends) because some people say its too dark. When you try the makki grey please post a picture, if it does what it claims on the website it seems like a good option.
