Tried to go pastel with a hairdresser but they bleached me unevenly.please helpPosted 3 years, 3 months ago
Hey. I'm new to this so please bear with me. What I'm trying to achieve is pastel pink hair (difficult I know). I naturally have quite light blonde/Goldy hair so I figured if i bleached it a little it would give me my light "canvas". That didn't really happen :( here's the run down of what happened with my hair:
About 5 weeks ago i went into a salon to do my pastel and they didn't have it so decided to give me an ombre with highlights that i could then die over with a semi dye. I dont do well with confrontation so i didn't ask why not just do the whole head but i trusted them ..
Anywho they did that and it turned out quite light and nice (they toned it with some purple..I think. I know I'm bad i haven't I researched enough before this :((( )and went over it with diluted (in conditioner) live xxl shocking pink. This was quite bright on the bleached bits but faded nicely to a pastely colour. So i figured wait a month and then bleach everything to the same shade and do the same thing.
So 3 days ago i went to the saloon for my full head bleach (so this was exactly 1 month after i first did the ombre). I thought it was clear that i meant a full even bleach to match the rest..Apparently not :( she took me to the sink and basically "washed in" some bleach all over focusing very hard on my roots ... She then washed it off and added their own pink (to help me) ..They used crazy colour (i think pinkissimo) and i told them to dilute it with conditioner to make it pastel but she said it's not possible and she'd just leave the colour on shorter .... So then my hair sort of turned neon pink :( which is nice but the problem now is that my ends where the ombre was are super super pink and my top of head as well and there's just this kind of dark band all over the middle of my hair.. i think its because the bleach was done unevenly so now when the pink washed out it's probably going to look not very great :(
I was wondering if there is a way to even out my base colour so that it doesn't turn out awful..The pictures here are from 1 wash after this pinkissimo fiasco so the colour faded a bit revealing quite yuky bands that actually look like my own hair colour (maybe a bit darker even..How is that possible? ) . Sorry i know I'm an absolute noob but I'd really like to sort this out (probably myself because I'm scared of hairdressers now and i cant deal with confronting them ..) . Should i wait a few weeks (like 2? ..) and then try to bleach in the middle there to get it to the same colour as the ends? Is it possible to do that in a way that it doesn't even up even more disgusting? Or should i do a bleach bath? Or what? :( I really want to commit to the pastel now since i started putting my hair through hell with this :( i think its in pretty good condition. We always olaplexed it and i use no.3 at home as well as bathing my hair in coconut oil and argan oil and so far i don't think i even have split ends from.this whole adventure yet.. and it doesn't feel like straw or anything. Please help, sorry if this is such a silly problem :((( i think i basically just need to get to very light (like my tips which were almost platinum) ..And somehow do that evenly and then i can play with the pastels better.. maybe..?
Sorry for the big rant, i made this account just to ask this question. Thanks in advance x

Aw, I actually think it looks ace!! And i know what u mean, I'm really scared of hairdressers, on the very rare occasion I've gone I'm never confident enough to tell them when they've got it wrong! I would say to go back to the hairdressers and explain that's not what u wanted, they should bleach that section again for you. But if you really really don't want to do that then yep you could bleach the darker section yourself. Getting a friend to help you at least to do the back would be helpful. The only thing is it is hard to get it completely matching the ends and roots, but it will be closer than what you have now. Although I def would reiterate that I think it looks beautiful as it is :)

Also if this was the first time you've bleached (the first 2 times) then you probably can get away with putting the bleach on all of the hair apart from the ends which are very light, and possibly apart from the roots as well if they're light enough. I.e. putting it on the darker and the lighter highlights. You will still have variation then but it will be subtle. I would leave it a week at least tho and do some good conditioning between now & then.

I'd go back and have them fix it too, especially as you said you wanted it evened up. I hate confrontation so I can sympathise with the awkwardness but you didn't get what you asked for and they should sort it out for you.
I see you had highlights, but did they add a dark colour too? The highlights are really contributing to the uneveness and needs to be corrected before you can go pastel. There seems to be some reddish streaks (natural?) which have gone a bit coppery with the pink. These need to be lightened most but overall it needs to be brought up to the same level as the ends.
I'd imagine the bleach bath idea was to try and soften the highlights but it's not the best way to tackle it; light areas are bleached needlessly and the darker areas haven't been lightened enough to match. Ideally they should go through your hair section by section and lighten the darker areas to match the bottom.
Using Pinkisimmo seems like a bit of a cover-all. Crazy Color has a couple of pastel pink shades that they could have used, but it wouldn't have covered the darker areas. The hairdresser should have known that a direct colour doesn't develop the same way one with peroxide does. Leaving it on for less time doesn't make it less intense.
Assuming it's lightened well, expect a bit of a mishmash of colour as the pink is bleached out. You might want to have some dye ready to finish the job at home.
I'd consider going to another salon next time if your current place doesn't take your wishes into account.

Thanks for your advice guys!! I agree i think it looks nice now, I'm just affraid of what it will look like once the colour faded out :P
I think I'm gonna keep it as it is for now and see how it washes out (probably will take like 4 more washes? And i wash my hair twice a week so like 2ish weeks so i can work on conditioning my hair), and then try to fix it myself by lightening that middle section with my partner and try and weed out all the darker bits to avoid getting over the highlights again, followed by some toner to get rid of the red? (Yeah my natural hair has turned slightly gingery lately..Dunno if it's the water here lol so probably that's why i have that coppery look) . In the meantime I'll try to work up some courage and see if i can go back to that hairdresser and explain the situation to them. If they seem to know how to fix it (i.e. taking your guys's suggestions as a method) I'll trust them with it..Otherwise I'll do it myself..It was super expensive to have this done and I'm not sure i can do it again :P
Thanks guys! X
Sorry Jude, forgot to reply about the darker bits. As far as I know no darker bits were added to my hair. She literally just died over my already highlighted hair with bleach so i assume you can't really darken in that way..Maybe the contrast is super high so they seem more dark now? I don't know :(
So i think i fixed it :) i did it the lazy/novice way.. i bought some Schwartzkopf live platinum and got my partner to spread it around evenly on my dark middle section and then we ended up putting it everywhere.. that turned my hair bright yellow because i didn't use the toner yet since i was gonna go over it with my pink dye. I added the Schwartzkopf lightener plus twist in cool rose and from what it looks like now i think we got an even job done. My hair is a bit dry but i think it survived the fiasco..Am hoping having to never touch the bleached bits again with any sort of bleach :P
I was going to add pictures of the process but i cant figure out how :(
