NEED HELP W MY PINK HAIRPosted 2 years, 9 months ago
Please let me bring you along my pink hair journey...
I first colored it purple with Splat! It came out a really nice shade of dark purple (photo not attached since I could only upload 3 pics.) The nice shade of purple only lasted about a week and a few days, then of course, as everyone with colored hair knows, it faded... Faded to a purple with shades of pink peaking thru. As time went on, it faded to a really pretty hot pink, then to a cotton candy pink. Usually I don't get this lucky with faded colored hair so I was pretty happy! (and surprised!) In the past, my blues have faded to ugly greens, reds have faded to ugly oranges, blondes have faded to ugly brassiness colors, etc., etc...
The pretty cotton candy colored pink lasted a good while... its been..wow, 6 months just about I havent touched my hair, Ive just left it alone and do its own thing. Im one to ultimately have streaks of bad luck, but with my purple fading like this I considered myself a W! Anywhoo... its about 7 months down the road and now my beautiful cotton candy pink is a HOT MESS!
My dirty blonde roots have grew about 4 inches in. The cotton candy-ish pink is at the top of my hair, and as it goes down, it turns into a VERY light faded pinkish, and as it goes down longer it turns into a coral/ blonde color. So Id say, unfortunately, my streak of good luck has ran out and now I am left with about 4 different colors in my long, beautiful hair. Oh what a hair nightmare! Ive been able to leave it be considering its not THAT bad... but it NEEDS FIXED! I have left it alone as physically and emotionally long as possible.
In the past when I had a pretty darker turquoise blue color, it faded to a weird green color. It was tolerable. I let it fade as much as possible and then just slapped some splat bleach on top and to my surprise, it did come out a nice bleach blonde color, (with hues of very, very light green on the tips of my hair.) I just slapped more blue on top of that so I wasn't determined too much to get the hues of green out since the blue would just overlap it. That blue came out wonderful as well.... until it faded green again. Put bleach on it, then tried this whole purple thing out.
I used Splats purple hair color and I absolutely fell in LOVE with the color, but it washed out SUPER quick! And now Im stuck with this faded pink color! And I'll tell ya what.... this cotton candy pink shade on the top of my head will not wash out for the life of me!! Its been about 6-7 months now and it will not come out. I have tried scrubbing my head numerous times using Head & Shoulders Dandruff shampoo, Ive tried the Vitamin-C thingy, and not to mention already, Ive been washing my hair just about every other day for the past 6-7 months. Ive tried whatever I could possible to fade it out some more but nope! Its stuck on me.... is it a sign that Im destined to have ugly pink hair?! Or is it just bad luck creeping in...
!!! So I need some help, my fellow hair trendy gals. What should I do? Please dont mention a salon either because I really dont have that kind of money, and Ive been doing my own hair forever now and it comes out fine enough to receive compliments. I was considering just slapping some bleach ontop of my whole head... but the problem is that my 4-inch dirty blonde roots are showing, along with the darker pink on the top, followed by the lighter coral peach/pink/blonde on my ends... so if I bleach it, it might end up all different colors and thats every girls nightmare when bleaching. I think its way worse than having yellow/orange blonde! So it got me to thinking... what if I just slap the bleach on the darker pink first, let it sit a little, and then do my roots, then the bottom of my super light coral/pink/blonde... that way, hopefully, (praying to the hair Gods) that it will end up all one, maybe 2 color blonde(s.)
Question: If I bleach my hair overtop of this pink/coral/ dirty blonde roots mess, will it turn up more yellow or orange?
Another question: Can I tone my hair using a hair dye from Walgreens? Instead of going to Sally's and buying actual toner. Like lets say I bleach my hair, it turns out blonde with hues of brassiness.. Could I just buy an ash blonde color as a toner? Or has anyone ever tried the Loreal pastels? Wondering if I could use that pastel blue color as a toner. Ive heard it makes everyones hair purple, not blue lol.. so Ive been wondering if it'd work as a toner.??
I want to know what color toner to buy. If its more orange, Id need blue. If its yellow, Id need a purple/violet color.
Anyone have any suggestions for me? I have literally been searching the Internet trying to find anyone with a similar hair dilemma as mine but nope, nothing. I'll specifically search PINK and it'll come up with people with blue hair. Searching "Bleach over pink," "What color will my pink hair turn after bleaching?" "Will pink hair turn orange or yellow after bleach?" "Faded pink after bleach," etc... Nothing! ugh. So I came across this website, made an account strictly searching for suggestions. Im really hoping I will get a good amount of feedback that way if someone ever comes across this problem as well, they can search the Internet and come across this gem! :)
Final note: Please dont mention salons. I don't have that kind of money. I usually just buy products from Walgreens and I honestly don't come across many problems. Sally's and Ulta is OK; love their toners! My hair is very long, almost to my butt. I cut my dead ends every few months and I use a deep conditioning treatment once every 3 months or so. I also never use any heat on my hair; no hair straighteners, no blow dryers, nothing. I'll blow dry it once in a blue moon, but that is the extent of using heat on my hair. So Id say my hair is in pretty decent shape if anyone was curious.
PLEASE HELP GIRLS/BOYS!!! Has anyone ever had this same problem??? Havent found anything on the Internet :/ Any feedback would be seriously so much appreciated xx

what color do you want? do you want to go back to blonde? if so try the bleach powder shampoo oils method on the pink parts https://www.haircrazy.com/forum/products-and-techniques/11128/ before you do the bleaching of the roots, worse case senario if bleach does get on the pink it will probably go sort of peachy, but that color is so faded I don't think you need to worry and then you can probably tone with direct dyes, like ion titanium, or pravanna silver, if you want pink or purple again it's easier just bleach your roots and throw on your desired color
Im not really 100% positively sure what color I want to go for, but first things first, I need this pink OUT and to have the SAME color on my whole head lol thats the first goal. I think I might try to achieve a silver/gray with blue at the ends... I just bought Splat bleach, because that has never failed me. Weird I know right, but it works!! So what if I just add the olive oil, coconut oil and sulfate based shampoo's with the Splat bleach powder? Will that be ok? What does the technically do anyway? So Id apply that combo on my pink, let that sit, then put the normal bleach mixture on my ends and roots? I also bought Splat Violet Vixen toner as well. Once my hair is at the right color blonde I might want to achieve the silver/gray with blue. Or worse case scenerio, if my pink doesnt come out I'll just leave it and touch up my roots pink, so the top of my hair is still pink, while the rest is bleached, so I can color that silver. So it'll be a pink to silver/gray ombre. I dont know... kinda just going with the flow. Before I had this pink, it was purple, then green, then blue... so Idk what color to do next.
Thanks for ur suggestions xx

Suggest get a friend or relative to help with bleaching if this is your route. Depends on what you want the out come color to be. If want pink then suggest get a medium pink semi-permanent dye which will turn out slightly darker on the light brown roots, the pink areas guess would remain a medium pink and the light ends would be the most vibrant. If bleaching the light brown roots these will turn orangish-yellow (brassy) then yellow the gold blonde then light blonde the beige blonde then the color of the inside of a banana peel. If bleaching the pink then the pink will just get a lighter shade of pink. Red has for myself always been a difficult color to fully remove.
Splats purple faded pink because it is a pink based purple. Another pink based purple is Manic Panic in Purple Haze and Arctic Fox in Purple Rain. Other purples are blue based like Manic Panic in Ultra Violet. Purples usually fade toward blue or red because blue and red make purple. I have had a few purples remain purple until finally completely faded away. Also I had a purple when bleached turned orange.
Aqua hair turned toward green and pink hair turned toward brassy (orange) because we live within an atmosphere, The atmosphere contains tiny particulates. We have a blue sky because the greatest number of particulates within the atmosphere are equal in size to the wavelength of blue light in angstroms. This blue light gets scattered the most and this is why we have a blue sky. The atmosphere also contains yellow particulates. This gives a shade of yellow to hair and is most noticeable on the lightest hair such as white hair. Using purple based shampoo on white hair will help to mask or hide this yellow toning if the hair. Aqua hair turned toward green because blue and yellow make green as pink becomes brassy because red and yellow make orange.
This is my opinion and suggestions based on non-professional experience and a whole lot of science classes.
ok u kinda lost me. you said "if bleaching the light brown roots these will turn orange-yellow, then yellow the gold blonde, then light the blonde over the beige blonde, then the color of the inside of a banana peel." - that didnt make any sense to me? Sounds like ur trying to tell me to put yellow dye on my maybe after bleach, golden blonde, and to light the blonde over beige blonde, something banana peel. Yeah totally lost....
I know bleaching pink will only end up a lighter shade of pink, but my hair is 6-7 months faded. Its pretty light, so Im hoping it wont be too much of a hassle. Id like to get my whole head one color, a nice bleach blonde, and then make it a silver/gray with a deep blue on the ends. But after bleaching, if my pink is still there, I was thinking of just putting more pink color on the top of my head, and just having pink roots into a light silver ombre kinda look. Im kinda just winging it. Not sure exactly what color Im trying to achieve, but first things first, need to be blonde....
Today I bought Splat bleach kit and a violet vixen toner. Hoping that will do the trick to reach a nice bleach blonde color all around.
I was thinking of slapping the bleach ontop of the darker pink first and let that sit a while, and then put the bleach on my roots, then the tips. That way hopefully it will end up one color blonde. Then put the toner on top.
Aw man now Im scared....

I was trying to provide the changes to expect when light brown hair is bleached.
Light brown hair when bleached will change colors to orangish-yellow. The orange-yellow hair when bleached will change to a yellow hair color. The yellow hair color when bleached will turn to a golden blonde hair color. The golden blonde hair when bleached will change to a beige blonde hair color. The beige blonde hair when bleached will change in to the color of the inside of a banana peel.
Suggest take your time and have a friend or relative help to get areas that are hard to reach.
These are my suggestions and good luck.
Im no expert but I think all people who have all common hair knowledge knows what happens when bleaching brown hair lol my hair is more of on the dirty blonde side tho, and I bought toner, so Im hoping i'll be ok. Ive bleached my hair enough to know that when it reaches yellow it usually doesnt pull up anymore color (meaning it wont get more blonde/ wont get lighter.) You'd need toner to pull the yellow out.
Got bleach and toner today and just got done work. Going to dry it out in a little and see what happens...

You would be surprised at how many people with "common hair knowledge" have no idea that the hair goes through stages of color during the bleaching process. I can't tell you how many people whose stories I've read have said something like "I saw my hair looked orange and I panicked and washed off the bleach."
There's a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn't that kind of the point?
People don't want perfection. They want honesty.
