I need help with brassy roots!Posted 2 years, 5 months ago
Hi folks! I'm having trouble figuring out what to do with my roots. I like having a darker shadow root but I hate the orange brassy color they currently have.
I'm thinking I'm going to dye my roots using an ash blonde box dye, or maybe go to sallys and get a wella toner? Our maybe a semi permanent ash blonde color?
Not sure which option is best, our if I need to bleach them and then tone. Please halp.

You look sad in the picture, so will try to help. I do not know any color when added to orange brassy roots that will turn them the same color as the ends.
Toners do not change the color of the hair. Toners only mask or help hide a color. I have only used toners when hair was as light as the inside of a banana peel in color. Then a toner was applied to hide any remaining yellow that was in the hair. Otherwise in my opinion toners are a waste of money if used on hair any darker then the inside of a banana peel. Wella from my non-professional experience is not a good toner. If hair has become as light as the inside of a banana peel or as light as in the sad faced picture, then suggest the generic version of Shimmer Lights shampoo to help remove any remaining yellow tones. Since mention Sallys Beauty Supply suggest the generic version of Shimmer Lights shampoo which comes in the tall oval shaped white bottle and black cap with black letters indicating Generic Version of Shimmer Lights shampoo.
Since mention like darker roots then suggest lighten the roots till just a little darker then the ends.
Ash blonde is green based so if want a greenish tone then go for it.
My humble opinion is lighten the orange brassy area only with 20 volume bleach till almost the same color as the ends. Then suggest use the generic version of Shimmer Lights shampoo.
These are my suggestions. I hope soon you will be less sad then as in the picture.
