purple dye suggestions + hair disaster storyby musictea1Posted 4 years, 1 month ago
This summer I decided to dye my hair purple for the first time. However, I knew it could only stay in for about 2 weeks, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that I was going to remove quickly.
So, I went to Sally's and they were having a big sale...but it was Ion... Normally I avoid Ion like the plague because I've heard bad things about their blue/green shades, but 2 colors for $5 was too tempting. I decided to get Wild Orchid and Flamingo Pink.
At first, all went well. The dye stuck to my unbleached hair (level 8 blonde) and I was decently happy with the results. It was a nice warm purple with some pink streaks.
Then, the dye refused to fade out of the last 4-5 inches of my hair. It turned into this weird patchy mess of red and brown with hints of silver (from the purple) that just wouldn't budge. Finally I did manage to fade about 80% of the color out using anti-dandruff shampoo and vitamin c treatments and I'm back to a golden blonde. I've learned my lesson...
Any recommendations for a warm-toned purple that is actually possible to remove? I'm planning on lightening my hair 1 or 2 shades for more vibrancy this time. Basically, I'm aiming for the same as shade as Wild Orchid (that isn't Ion).

Manic Panic Purple Haze is a warm pink based purple. The purple haze pink is very hard to get rid of once fades to pink, but not as hard to get rid of as ION. Also suggest Directions, Special Effects, or Punky Color purple.
