Going from dark purple to pastel pinkPosted 4 years, 1 month ago
I've been dyeing my hair using Schwarzkopf's permanent Mystic Violet for about a year now but I'm bored of it. I want to go pastel pink (maybe using one of Schwarzkopf's Ultra Brights or Pastel dyes, but probably semi-permanent this time in case I didn't like it).
Problem: my natural hair is a medium brown, far too dark to go pastel without bleaching first, and my hair is obviously still full of purple. My hair's really long and thick so I'm going to get it cut before I do anything to it. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on how I should go about this? Should I use a colour remover first to get rid of the purple, then bleach my hair when it's back to my natural brown? Or should I just bleach it as is while it's still purple and dye it from there? And can anyone recommend any products/tips to do as little damage as possible? I've never bleached before so I have no idea how it'll affect me so I'd like to be careful
Thanks in advance!

I personally wouldn't put bleach on first, I did this when trying to remove purple and it went green! Would be best to use a colour remover like 'colour b4', I've used this and it works wonders without damaging your hair. Depending on the results after this you could then Bleach it in order to lighten it ready for your pastel pink!

yeah don't bleach the purple it will go green, use fading treatments, dandruff shampoo soaks, baking powder, dish soap, vitamin c, or the bleach powder shampoo oils meathod ( https://www.haircrazy.com/articles/misc-articles/katies-direct-dye-fading-treatment/once it's a very light purple you can put pink on top

As it is a permanent purple dye, the only way to fully remove it is a colour remover. If you have several layers of dye (eg you have coloured the lengths repeatedly rather than just the roots) you will need more than one round of colour remover. If you attempt to bleach the old colour out you will end up with stubborn orange tones that will make pastels impossible.
Going from permanent dye to light enough blonde for pastels is going to take a while if you want to do it safely. Take your time and space each process out if you want to preserve the integrity of your hair. Using a professional quality bleach with a low volume developer will give more lift with less damage.
I did then what I knew then, & when I knew better, I did better.
