Blurple Hair?

    Blurple Hair?

    by anjali

I used the Pravana Hair Color Extractor and this is my hair color now(in natural sun light):

I would like to achieve similar to this color:

-Does my hair need to be lightened more? -Would 3/4 pravana violet and 1/4 pravana blue achieve similar to this color?(Undiluted and left on for over 4 hours) I also have a tube of wild orchid

Your base is orange, you won't get vivid blue tones over an orange base. I would lighten to at least a golden blonde for a blue/purple Since you already have the dyes, try on a strand test to see if you will like the colour

I did then what I knew then, & when I knew better, I did better.

@Wicked Pixie, thank you!!! Would a hilift ash blonde(I have this) first over the color I have now and then the pravana work? What does "ash" in Ash blonde mean?

i would do another round of color remover, then use bleach or a bleach bath, highlift dye cannot lift color so it will have no effect. use something like one and only color fix or more pravanna extractor, make sure that you shampoo like crazy after for a few days to a week before bleaching the hair has to be yellow for blue tones to actually show

Dizzinea thank you so much:) I will do the color remover again but it usually doesn't do much in the second round. What color do you think the Pravana violet would be over what I have? I don't want it to be bright. I want it to be the color of the picture above, but dark (blackish indoors). I unfortunately cannot use bleach. My hair reacts very badly to it (even at low volumes and bleach baths).

I was hoping for a result similar to this, (only a more blue toned purple) because my hair is slightly lighter than hers was.

You can't get blue tones over orange, orange plus blue equals brown. The girl in the link had a brown base, not orange. A warm purple will be easier over an orange base. Blue/purple will look muddy on your base. Try it though, you might be happy with it

Thanks so much Wicked_Pixie:) I think I will just try the wild orchid mixed with violet. (No blue) I will post pictures after and let you guys know how it went:)

I really think your best bet is to mix various purples and try them on your current base, see which you prefer

I meant various proportions of the dyes you already have, to see which works best

I have experience with blurple! Adore African Violet will work wonders if you can get your base up to a level 8 yellow blonde. Good luck!

Thank you SO much Powerpuff_Nix:) I have one last question for you guys. Is it possible for me to move along the color wheel? I'm so sorry if this seems like a silly question. Could I go magenta red-wild orchid-wild orchid purple-purple blue?

You can't get the blue tones without lightening your base further. It just isn't possible on an orange base. If you won't bleach you need to go for warmer purples. You can try layering the colours, but i think putting blue over purple will just look blackish over that base. It might be something you will like though, you wanted a 'barely there' only-visible-in-bright-light colour before, so try on a strand.

Hi Wicked_Pixie:) I meant doing the loreal hicolor highlights in magenta over this base (which is magenta red on me and it has always been reliable) instead of bleaching blond and then proceed along the color wheel.
You know me so well:) I love colors that are visible in bright light but look black in dim light.

Thank you again for helping me so much over the years:)I'm going to strand test with all my purples tomorrow as well as do a strand test with the hicolor hilights in Ash blonde. I will definitely come back and add pictures after I do my whole hair:)

Hicolour dyes are a bad idea if your hair doesn't like bleach. They are seriously harsh and damaging, and should only be used on virgin hair for off-scalp applications. (Hence 'Hilights') You will see a lot less damage and get more lift with a really good bleach and a low vol developer.

Wicked_Pixie, for some reason, my hair responds really well to the brand loreal hicolor highlights high lift color. My hair has reacted badly to bleach even at low volumes and a bleach bath (both which hair dressers did). My hair does not get damaged with the hicolor highlights color (I have only tried magenta and red)even though it has bleach in it. I actually did it over hair that was dyed blue black for years (without using color remover). That has been my experience. I am sure bleach is much better for crazy colors though because they absorb super well after that, but my hair could never tolerate it.

Just because it was at a salon it does not mean they used quality products. Salons generally use high vol peroxide because it works more quickly too. Good bleach is better for lifting, less ammonia and peroxide are better for avoiding damage. If you could strand test a good bleach and low vol peroxide against Hicolour Hilights I think you would agree. It states quite clearly on the packaging that it should not be used on previously processed hair or for on scalp application. If you can get Loreal products try Loreal infinie Platine and 10 vol developer.

Wicked_Pixie- they have used Pravana, Matrix and Paul Mitchell at low volume ( I told them to do low volume because a year and a half (or longer) before I had done it myself with 30 volume and Quick Blue. That was disastrous lol). And the bleach bath was Paul Mitchell as well. I have never used the hicolor highlights on my roots. My roots were always blue black.

I will definitely strand test what your suggest:) I think my hair has always reacted well to l'oreal products for as long as I have colored my hair. Thank you so much for the suggestion. If it does react well, how many times do you think I need to do it? It needs to be at least a golden blonde? Keeping my fingers crossed because I would so much rather go that route. Btw, is pravana wild orchid a warm purple?
