Severed damage from bleaching-need help with products?by ellenismPosted 4 years, 3 months ago
Hello everyone. It's my first time here on the forum and I just start to learn about taking care of my hair after this accident so I hope someone on this forum would be able to help me with the situation.
Here's the history: I got hair bleached (until mid yellow color so not super light) and dyed pink at the salon. The hair condition at this time is dry and damaged but nothing serious (I have always bleached/permanent dyed my hair before then-both boxes and at salon-so my hair is never in a very healthy condition but it's not extremely damaged) then I wrongly decided to get my hair bleach again 4 months later at a different salon because I want me hair to be more even, hence more even pink color and not more pink-orange spot in one place and pink-purple in the other. Bad choice. This salon bleached my hair 2 days in a row. It turned light yellow/white but my hair is very damaged and hair is breaking a few inches from the roots all over especially at the cow lick area, and got noticeable thinner. At this point, I just forgot about coloring, keeping the platimunum blonde because I want to treat it before doing anymore with it. I started researching and doing protein as well as moisturing treatment to get my hair better before the next time I need to do root touch up.
Fast forward a month and a half later, I think my hair is a little better and ready just for a root touch up. I ended up going back to the original salon that did my pink hair because I think they take a better care of my hair.. Which they did. However, turns about my hair is not ready to do that touch up so even they tried their best, my hair still doesn't take it. As a result, more hairs beaking off inches from root, and this time, the whole section close to nape area snaps off. So now I can no longer tie my hair up cause you can see all the short hairs along the nape. Also, so much break off around the cow lick that now I have to wear hats all the time or do a half updo to hide the short hair. And it is about 50% thinner than before all this happened. I already decided to not bleach my hair anymore and instead doing colors (i'm using Overtone) that will look ok as my black roots grow out. I'm trying to repair them instead of having to cut them short.
I'm also not sure if I lack moisture or protein or both or if I'm overloaded because I don't understand how I can determind it. When I wash my hair, I will try to test strand with the hair that falls out and the current condition is when I pull it slowly, i can see it stretch a little bit before breaking. And if I stop pulling, it bouces back a little bit but not to it's original length. If I pull it fast, it breaks very quickly.
Below is the list of products I use and the routine and I'm wondering if there's more I can do to help my hair? I wash my hair once a week, let it air dry, I did use straightener for my side bang every 2-3 days or so but not I just cut a straight bang yesterday so I can avoid using straightener all together.
Pre-wash: mix of coconut oil and avocado oil. Add in 2 eggs in some weeks. Leave it for 4-5 hours before washing. I also tried Olaplex no. 3 one week. Still hasn't seen the difference but I plan on using oil mix one week and Olaplex the other from now
During Wash: -co-wash using Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind. -Followed by silver shampoo during some week if I need it (i used either Bleach London Purple Shampoo or Matrix Total Results Color Care So Silver Shampoo) -Protein treatment every other week or so using Joice K-Pak -Moisture treatment every week using Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating hair mask mixed with Aussie 3 minute miracle and 2 pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment. Left before 30 minutes then wash.
After towel dry my hair: - add a little of coconut oil - John Freda Full Repair Perfect Ends Deep Infusion - Redken Anti-snap (only used once a week after I wash my hair) - Moroccan oil treatment - It's a 10 miracle treatment
On days that I don't wash my hair, I used John Freda, Moroccan oil, and It's a 10 but at night I also spray water on my hair before putting in the products.
My hair still breaks every time I wash my hair, brush, etc. so I think there are even more short hairs every time after every wash. I try to not brush or comb my hair as much as I can. I'm thinking of switching out John Freda for Fekkai elixir and BioSilk Silk therapy but if anyone has any advice for me, I would love to hear them. Thank you !
The first two pictures are my hair after that root touch up bleach and the third is the current hair

I am afraid there is nothing more you can do. Bleach damage is permanent, you cannot fix it only mask the damage. I would cut off as much as you can bear to lose and start afresh. Bleach damage is cumulative, so in future try and avoid re-bleaching the same areas
I did then what I knew then, & when I knew better, I did better.

I'd second the haircut and I'd cover what you have with a semi-permanent dye of your choice. A more saturated colour will help mask frizz and damage a bit more. You could also give Olaplex a try, but honestly, I don't think it's that great for extremely damaged hair (it's probably better for slowing down bleach damage over time).
