ADVISE please? Hair Stylist Left Salon Hair Melts Off Am I justified a refund?Posted 4 years, 6 months ago
Hi I'm Christine and I am not having any luck I recently went to a Salon to go blonde and my hair melted off after the second process. I started with 4-5 inches of virgin new growth hair and the rest of semi permanent faded brown hair. The 1st process the bleach took platinum blonde to my roots the rest was pure carrot ginger. She sent me home with a blow out (which I don't know why It was horrible). :( I waited a week, clarifying it and conditioning it like crazy! Went to work ONLY wearing my entire hair under a hat. After a week of being so depressed I called the hair stylist basically crying with how much I hate it. She said to come back in Monday. I was worried so I did my own strand test at home to see what would happen. I used stuff from Sally's. It didn't go blonde but It lightened a LITTLE BIT. So Monday I show up at my appointment confident and hair stylist immediately runs out while I pull up in my car saying shed be right back. So I sat outside until she returned. After she returned I told her I only wanna do a few small highlights because I was worried about the health of my hair OF COURSE After she put in 18 foils very quickly she put me under the dryer and then told me she put in 40 developer so I was even more worried because we only used 20 before and I only used 20 on my strand test. After sitting with me for 10 mins checking to see if it was lightening she said it was lightening very slowly. She seemed to be acting off and said to me shed be right back and left again. There was no one else in there with me, she locked me in and said be right back. After 30 mins and hearing my hair crinckle and crunch I got extremely worried and tried texting her. My phone died. Stuff was dripping all down. I finally got up and took the dryer off and tried taking off the foils. Product started dripping all over my face and I didnt know what to do. Because I didnt know If It was okay to rummage around for a towel. I know.. I know... I feel like a fool. But I dont know if theres cameras and whos watching and I got scared. So I wiped it with the cape..I sat in dryer chair waiting. I didnt put the dryer back on my head but it was still on because I didnt know how to turn it off..She finally came back and I told her I had to take the dryer off. She checks the foils and says YAHHH It lightened! and then rushes to rinse me out. I AM SO WORRIED AT THIS POINT and I go back to the chair. As she starts brushing it starts melting off. my hair went from thick thick coarse to angel hair rubber bands. She said it was just the ends. Funny Cause She said my hair could take it before when I said 40 developer might be too much but then proceeds to say as strands are coming off. "I told you this might happen" . She clips it up wet with conditioner. Not realizing the severity of the damage I paid and went home. When I got home and realized it wasnt the ends that were coming out it was everything from where she started the foil. I texted her saying the conditioner didn't work and it WASNT just the ends that were coming off that it was the entire strand from where the foil started.. my boyfriend was combing out clumps of mush. :( She didn't reply .I wanted to respectfully see what she would say first. After discussing it with some friends I got the courage to text her back the next day and ask for a refund. Also I just wanna say she seemed very weird that day. The first time she bleached my hair and it came out ginger she was very nice and talkative and professional to me but this day she seemed so different she wasnt as polite and nice to me she seemed moody and pissed off about something and distracted. Do you think it was okay to leave and go home with foils of bleach in my hair and under a dryer? I feel awful. I'm embarrassed and I feel personally hurt, like she didnt even care about me. I asked her why she had to leave and she said she had to let the air conditioner guy in. I told her we could of just rescheduled!?! Because that morning I texted her asking we could do something later in the week? She insistent it had to be Monday blah blah. Anyway do you think I'm warranted any type of refund or anything? After I texted her asking for a refund she immediately texted me back saying: What? FOR WHAT? I did what you asked for?! I warned you that could happen.. going a mile per minute....I politely texted back saying yes you did but you also left me, I feel like had to stayed and checked the hair every moment or so you could of caught it. Especially if you knew the hair was already in fragile condition. You should of been even more present and careful this time.. Should I compensated or am I wrong for asking for a refund? If she as a professionally knew there was chance this could happen then why would she leave for so long? Plus my friends think its weird she'd leave a completely stranger in the salon anyway. I could of stole stuff or who knows? I mainly feel so defeated. I should of just done it myself. the strand test I did at home was fine but I wanted to go to a professional so that this wouldn't happen. I seriously regret letting anyone doing my hair. Should of just done it myself. PLEASE give me some honest advise on the situation. Like how I should deal with it personally and professionally and hair wise? PLEASE thank you

Yikes, I personally think you'd be entitled to a refund from reading your story, in my opinion. If she's not responsive, it may be best to go straight to the manager? PS take photos as soon as possible, so she or her manager can see evidence of what it looks like before it starts growing out. I'm so sorry this happened to you :( Good luck with regrowing.

Yes I second the fact that you deserve a refund most definitely. This is the most unprofessional stylist I've ever heard of. Take pictures ASAP. If she continues to refuse your refund, go to a manager to discuss it. Sounds like she may have a drug problem or something - maybe she was "off" because she hadn't had her "fix" for the day & immediately took off when she got in touch with her dealer to go get her fix? I don't know. The whole story just seems so odd & unprofessional! Please tell me that she isn't the owner of the salon?! If not you need to go to somebody over this!
Find real beauty! *Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. ❤

You need to go back and see the manager. They should offer you a haircut and some treatments as well as a refund. many salons ask you to sign a waiver if they are doing processes they consider risky. Going from dark (especially dyed) to light is a slow process, the orange you saw was not the stylists fault. She should have dyed the top part a similar shade while waiting to take you up to blonde in a month or so. It is a combination of rushing, using 40 vol on previously processed hair and leaving it on too long (and under a dryer) that has caused the breakage. Cut off as much as you can bear and use some protein and deep moisturising treatments. if the salon offers Olaplex ask for that, but it sounds like your hair is beyond saving.
I did then what I knew then, & when I knew better, I did better.
