My hair gets stained SO easily?!
I have covered my hair with Directions rose red in order to cover my previous blue hair, I made sure to really try to get the blue out as good as possible before I dyed it (it turned to a pastel/maybe mid pastel) and I thought that rose red would make it fade to atleast a silver with time, but... nope! It just fades to a warm purple with blueish streaks. It just looks messy after a few washes with a warm pastel purple at the roots, mixed with a colder purple at the lengths, a silvery blue at the nape and a bit of muddy mid colours. I have seen so many people go from blues and purples straight to blonde again?! How?? the colour just really tend to stick to my hair even though I mostly do mid-pastels with lots of conditioner. I have tried everything from vit c treatments and clarifying schampos before. How do I get rid of the muddyness and the ugly staining? :( I used to be able to do pretty and clean pastels before I dyed it blue. I really want to go back to that clean base! (Sorry for my frustrated rant, I just feel that I have tried everything now!)

Have you tried the bleach powder/shampoo/oils method? That's always worked for me, even with Pravana Violet which sticks around FOREVER and never came out with Vit C or clarifying shampoo on its own.
@ksiepierski worked out the magic formula - I don't have exact details as I tend to measure roughly, but you use a mix of the following over hair already slathered in coconut oil, add heat over cling film or a shower cap and hey presto, colour gone.
Bleach powder Clarifying shampoo Coconut oil Extra virgin olive oil
She's gone to great length to explain it properly in a relatively recent post, but I'm on my phone so don't want to try and find it on such a small screen!
Good luck and let us know if it works for you.

It is 1oz of bleach powder, 4oz of shampoo, a teaspoon each of coconut and olive oil, applied to hair that has been soaked in coconut oil. You work the mix in, cover, add heat, then rinse with hot water after 5-15 mins. Follow with a vinegar rinse to help seal the cuticle. That method will get out the stubborn staining from even Ion blues and Atomic pink if used repeatedly. Other than that, the solution is patience. It takes along time to fade out vivid colours, we are talking months rather than weeks. I have noticed that the unevenness comes and goes as it fades, sometimes an extra shampoo is all it takes to make your fade acceptable again.
I did then what I knew then, & when I knew better, I did better.

@mummydactyl @Wicked_Pixie Hmmm sounds interesting! Will the bleach powder damage the hair alot?
-
by Wicked_PixiePosted 5 years, 4 months ago
It is as non-damaging as possible with the coconut oil on the hair beforehand and only leaving on for 10 mins or so. As fading methods go you get a lot of fade for the least damage if that makes sense lol Try on a strand test to see how it affects your hair. The only totally damage free fading method is hot oil soaks and that will take a lot longer

@Wicked_Pixie Yay, sounds promising! The only bleach powder that I can get my hands on here is the package with bleach powder that comes with the box bleach I use. But that should work, right? It is bleach powder after all! (we don't have bleach powder + peroxide in stores here, oddly enough)

Thanks @wicked_pixie - I really ought to measure it properly and do the vinegar rinse...next time maybe!
Good luck @glittervindar - that bleach powder from your box will be fine if you can't get it separately. As for damage, my hair is so short I don't think I'm ever going to tell if it damages in the long run. Short term it's fine; I do tend to do an overnight coconut oil soak afterward if I have the time and patience for it!

I've got staining from using Voodoo Forest so I completely feel your pain! :/
Even though I'd faded as much as I could stand when I put orange over it initially it looked alright but with fading it has gone a bit of a peculiar fluorescent yellow colour in places! I'm definitely going to give the forementioned fading method a try to hopefully be completely rid of it.

@katox Stupid staining! :( I hope this fading treatment will help us! I would love to see your results whenever you try it out!
@mummydactyl Thanks!
I'm gonna do a strand test and see how it works out! In worst case, I could sacrifice a couple of inches of hair in order to get a nice base again.

Well I have the mix on my head now albeit modified (no coconut oil at the moment so olive oil aplenty!), we'll see how it works out. Eeeek!

@katox Yay!!! How did it go? I just washed out my strand test (I only took the tip of a strand since I have most build up there) and the results are quite promising actually.
I washed it out way too early though, but still! It left me with a very light, silvery gray. Yay!

Here I am! It worked surprisingly well on the Rose Red (especially on the shaved parts) and turned most of my orange-yellow-green a golden yellow so I guess it was a pretty good result.
I'm not even sure what I want to do with it next (I keep thinking yellow (not fluorescent) as I have a bit of a fascination with it but I don't want it to looklike a dodgy bleach job :/), guess I'll have to bleach my roots and then go from there.

For the picky they were taken in different lighting, as it was natural daylight in the before ones and flash for the right but you get the idea.

@katox oooh! great results!
Is this close to your base color that you had underneath? My strand test turned a bit greyish-green and it feels quite scary to be honest!
-
by katoxPosted 5 years, 4 months ago
Hahaha, hmmm my base colour...it's been so long since I've seen it as I tend to go over one faded colour to the next. I would venture a guess and say that my base once upon a time was white blonde as I get my roots that shade and with hair growth and stuff...
Soooo technically I suppose I could have another round with the recipe to see if more will come out or just go ahead and recolour with what I have. Decisions decisions!

Hi, @glittervindar and @katox. Sorry to jump in the middle of the topic like this, but, I'm planning to use this method, you two, used and I would like to know what you think of the damage caused to the hair. Do you mind telling me about it? Do you think it damaged the hair much? Thank you! :)
I think I'll never come back to my natural hair color again!
-
Posted 5 years, 4 months ago
@alicefranco my hair felt a bit dry afterwards, but it doesn't feel like it damaged alot at all :)

What colour are you thinking of going @glittervindar?
My hair felt pretty dry too @alicefranco but I'm probably a rubbish person to ask as my hair is pretty coarse anyway.
