Help with medium purple hair?

    Help with medium purple hair?

I wanted medium purple hair for a long time. I finally decided to then try it. I bought Manic Panic in Ultra Violet, hoping that I would get the desired look from my medium brown hair. Obviously, I wouldn't expect the color to come out JET BLACK. I am planning to use bleach this time, but I want to bleach my hair just enough so that when I add the Ultra Violet, my hair would not come off extremely bright, because I have strict parents who are skeptical about this already. So my question is how far would I have to bleach my hair- more specifically, to what shade of brown or blonde? I've included a picture of how I want my hair to look in the end (obviously the picture has really good lighting so the hair does come off lighter but I'd want a little darker than that). It would be really helpful if a picture of description of the shade is provided.

    Thanks :)

Actually, if you want to minimize the bleaching, you'll probably be bleaching to a ginger instead of a brown or blond tone. (When you bleach the blue/green tones leave your hair first, leaving you with red and yellow tones which make you hair orange).

You can, however, dye your hair a darker warm purple on a ginger/orange base without too much trouble. The shade you picked is not all that light - darker purples tend to cover ginger bases pretty well. In general a ginger base will make the purple look more red-toned, and it will fade more pink/red.

Violets do have a lot of blue tones in them, so I'm not sure how that will turn out. It could muddy the color (since orange and blue are opposite to each other on the color wheel, and dark opposites tend to turn brown when put together), or counteract some of the orange tones to make the purple cooler. I think it depends on how light your base is, but other haircrazies are better equipped to give advice on that since I've never tried putting violet on a ginger base myself (only colors like dark tulip, plum (diluted), eggplant, a.o.).

A strand test could be a good idea; it will tell you if you need another round of bleaching to get the desired result, or if your good to go as it is after the first round.

Also, I was wondering: do you still have MP Ultra Violet in your hair right now? Because it would be wise to fade or remove that color before bleaching, as bleaching can drive the pigments from the violet deeper into your hair, staining it or making it harder to lighten.

I already washed out most of it with head and shoulders and crushed vitamin C tablets. Thanks for the advice

i agree that ultra violet may be too blue over a ginger base and may go too brown suggest trying something like deep purple dream or purple haze as they have more pink or you could mix in some hot hot pink or other magenta with your uv

It isn't as simple as bleaching a little to get a darker colour. When you bleach dark hair you reveal a lot of warm tones (red and orange) and it is impossible to get a cool or blue toned purple over a warm base. If you can bleach your hair past the orange to a dark blonde you will have more success with dark violet shades.

Thanks for the tip :) but if I dye it to a dark blonde, would I get a medium dark purple, or a bright purple? Because I'm not allowed to have bright hair

The final colour totally depends on the purple dye you use. Your inspo pic is a little unrealistic though as it is photoshopped. That girls hair is actually a medium brown. warm purples are more achievable on dark hair, you would only need to bleach minimally for this type of shade; http://www.nyblackhairstyles.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/dark-purple-hair-color-shades-553ae22c9b542.jpg

That color kinda looks like a very dark purple dye put over a very light base, as stated above. You could try SFX deep purple or Manic Panic Deep Purple Dream.
