What to do with Directions Mandarin?by xLolaPosted 4 years ago
I recently came across a store that sold Directions dye for €5,- a tub, so I bought a tub of Mandarin. Sometimes a tiny little bit of orange can be just what you need when you are trying to get an exact colour, so that's what I bought it for initially.
Now that I've got it laying around though, my hands are itching to do something with it. I'm not too big of a fan of bright orange on myself though, and I'm pretty sure the green staining on the bottom of my hair will be a problem if I try to go peach. Do any of you have cool ideas to use it? I'm really into pastels and soft colours lately, and generally cool tones look best on me. I've got all sorts of colours in my stash so there's no limitation there :)
As for the photo's I added (ignore the awkward faces), photo 1 and 2 are pretty representative for the shades of blue and green I've got going on, and picture 3 is more accurate in terms of lightness; near-whiteish at the top and darker at the bottom. I think I will be able to get out some more blue at the top and middle of my hair, but I'm pretty sure the bottom won't go any lighter than it is now.
If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

Try a strand test and see what you get. You might get a kind of gingery colour when the tones mix. It could be nice! You could add in some streaks of red or plum to the ginger and create a multi-tonal look.
Otherwise I'd suggest dyeing some clip-in extensions and playing with contrasting colours.
