I was bleach blonde, but decided I wanted to try for the light golden/orange copper color like the first pic, I fist used Garnier Fructis 643- Light Natural Copper, I got a dull (ashy) strawberry blonde color (second pic, sorry pic from event (steampunk world's fair), which was the reason for changing color in the first place :p). Then I thought if I used an even lighter copper color I might get the color I was after, so I got the only light copper my walmart had, Revlon 54 Bright Auburn. Now it's red, not bad but really not what I was going for. Can anybody give me any advice on how to get the color I was aiming for?
Use a color remover like One n Only Colorfix from Sallys l, which will take you back to your bleach blonde base color again, or close to it. I would use Adore Ginger on it, maybe with a teeny bit of French Cognac. It's a semi which you can order from here or your local African/Caribbean beauty supply stores may have it. If you take care of it properly it will last a lot longer than a permanent, and it will be nice and rich like in your inspiration picture. Semis also aren't damaging at all, neither are color removers, though removers can be drying.
Always clarify and demineralize your last cleansing before any chemical process to avoid adverse results or unstable chemical reactions! Remember that test strands can save you a world of headache, that protein damage is permanent, moisture is essential, you can use coconut oil as a lightener pre treatment to minimize protein reduction, and that Olaplex can reform broken disulfide bonds so long as they haven't already negatively paired, but it does not address protein or moisture.
I think my current colour is pretty similar to what you initially wanted to achieve, I use L'Oreal Inoa 7.43, sometimes I mix it with a little bit of 7.34 to get it more golden-orange. The only thing is that Inoa requires you to use their special developer (it has a different formula that works with Inoa dyes).
Here are links to the shades:
Thank you so much for your help! I will admit the idea of mixing colors kind of scares me though, do you mix the colors before adding the developer? How do you know how much to use? I think I might first try the color remover+Adore Ginger. Thanks again for the help, can't wait to try it :)
